I would say that John McCain is more like Roosevelt than anyone else--in his willingness to stick to his positions no matter what. But, I'd vote for Rudy--he's that rare fiscal conservative who wants a strong defense, but understands that morality can't be legislated. Morality comes from God and is grounded within a person. |

Hi guys. I agree with "Light of the Moon". Vote for Ken Lonewolf as a write-in candidate for President! I'm just like Teddy Roosevelt and that crazy but lovable bastard, Gen. George Patton all rolled into one. There is a time for talk, and there is a time to kick ass and straighten some things up!
This country has slipped way too far away from the ideals and principals on which it was founded. We are coddling criminals! We are allowing an out-of-control "Oil Mafia" to ruin our entire economy. We are allowing our manufacturing companies to move their operations overseas and lay-off American workers. This crap cannot continue! China and the American companies who moved there, can sell their garbage somewhere else! It won't be coming to America! We are putting up with corrupt public officials!
Any country who thinks that they can pull crap on America, will be in deep s--t! I will nuke their asses until they glow!
Our education system is in shambles trying to make "everyone equal"to the detriment of all! Let's go back to failing the deadbeats and the lazy! And pay our good teachers a living salary!
Our military will be second to none! All able boduied Americans will serve their country. All will in in the resrves until they are 62 years of age, just like Switzerland!
Drug dealers will be hanged in public for all to see!
Illegal aliens who want to work here will register for a work card and an identification number! They will pay taxes like the rest of us! Failure to report to renew the work card in one year will result in some really dire consequences!
Wall Street moguls and others like them who steal Americans' retirement funds will also be hanged on the nearest lampost to the company where they formerly worked! All of their assets will be seized and their homes and expensive cars will be sold at public auction! The funds raised from the auctions will be divded among those who they "screwed" out of their money!
Guys, you see why I won't be elected, because I am for restoring American values!

Sorry about the typos. All able BODIED Americans will serve their country.
"All will BE in the RESERVES----etc.
And I would add "I won't accept bribes, but I will jail whoever offers bribes"!
Teddy Roosevelt and Gen. Patton all over again! It would be "deja-vu all over again" for certain!

Ken, I really like some of what you said. I want more information, please. The illegal alien thing is a big issue for me. I am curious, what would the dire consequences be? And, how would you find them? I ask because no one out there seems to have a good way to handle this problem. |

Actually winglo, - there is a way to locate illegals here. We start fining ALL companies let's say $3000.00 a head for every illegal on their payroll. If any company is found to have illegals the second time, it's a tidy $6000.00 per head. Then we increase the fine "per head" for every additional illegal. That makes it financially impossible to use illegals profitably. This assumes of course we actually make a serious effort to check on companies that are most likely to hire them. It wouldn't take long to get the message out. Do we have the political **** to do it?? Unfortunately NO!. |

You know, MG, I think I agree with you that this would put an end to the problem, or a large portion of it, pretty quickly. I have heard this idea, or something similar to it, before. The only difficulty I have with it is that this would force employers to work as INS agents without paying them. They would have to spend countless hours and dollars trying to verify that employees are legal. They aren't in business to do this. They are trying to make a profit with a service or product. They are already forced to collect taxes for the IRS, why should they have this additional burden forced upon them, as well? The government created the laws and it is responsible for keeping illegal aliens out of the country, not employers! |

Dr. Paul's campaign raised over $6 million dollars yesterday in commemoration of the Boston Tea Party, surpassing all other single day fundraising records.
"Money bomb': Ron Paul raises $6 million in 24-hour period By Kenneth P. Vogel, Politico.com
Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, raised an astounding $6 million and change Sunday, his campaign said, almost certainly guaranteeing he'll outraise his rivals for the Republican nomination in the fourth quarter and likely will be able to fund a presence in many of the states that vote Feb. 5.
Paul's campaign spokesman late Sunday announced the campaign had eclipsed the $5.7 million that John Kerry raised the day after he locked up the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination – arguably the largest single-day fundraising haul in U.S. political history."

I hear you winglo, - but the problem is so large it seems unlikely that there are enough agents to make any serious dent. Not that long ago, when someone was hired, their social security number vs name was checked by the social security admin. If there wasn't a match - a notice was sent to the employer. An rather quick and easy check. From what I've read, that notice is no longer sent, - and the change happened under this Administration or Clintons Admin. - not sure which. Neither administration is "really" interested in solving this problem, although the vast majority of Americans are. If we started heavily fining a few companies, and let it be known that was only the beginning, it would send a message to others. No jobs for "illegals" send a message in other ways also, - no where near as many headin' north. |

Wow, I have been totally out of it for almost a week! Anyway, I agree, MG, that no one in office really wants to do anything about this, but that the public wants the problem taken care of. So, how do we use the upcoming elections to get that message across?
I also don't think that comparing SS# to a database is adequate because so many numbers are stolen. It seems to be a very difficult problem to solve. It would help if the media would stop implying that trying to stop the flow of illegal aliens makes one a racist. |

Howdy Folks! Primary/Caucus season is fast approaching so I've reset the poll numbers to see where we're at. I've also made this a members only poll so if you want to vote you'll have to sign up as a member first. Sorry to all of you lurking hurons. I removed Tommy Thompson and Sam Brownback. I've added Fred Thompson, Mike Gravel and Ron Paul. In order to add these current folks I had to drop the "I don't vote/ I don't care" option, apologies to any offended- please feel free to voice your opinions on not voting. Hope you all are planning to participate in the election in some fashion.
Take Care!! |

My one hope for the upcoming primary is that the idiot wing of the South Carolina Republican party doesn't bubble up from their sewer again to spread false rumors about any of the candidates. In 2000 there was a bizarre phone/fax campaign that took place in some parts of the state accusing John McCain of having had an illicit affair with a black woman and thus producing an illegitimate biracial child. These lousy excuses for human beings were spreading this rumor about his legitimate adopted daughter who he and his wife adopted from a foreign country. Nobody ever quantified how much of an effect this had on the results, but several political analysts said that might have contributed to McCain losing the primary. Don't know how true THAT was but it cast a lousy light on our state and I hope it doesn't happen again. So far the robo-phone calls are coming in hot and heavy, most of them from the Romney campaign.
Personally, I'm an independent but I will be voting for John McCain again. I admired him in 2000 and my admiration has only increased over the past eight difficult years. |

There is a popular joke here in South Carolina that when they finally brought the Civil War era Hunley submarine up from the bottom of the Charleston harbor, they found a VOTE FOR THURMOND bumper sticker on it. |
