"Pretty interesting" is quite the understatement, MG.  It is, in a word, spectacular -- both the fort and the annual re-enactment.
Our regiment usually participates in this event, and at least a few of us plan to be there this year, right Seamus? I will be going unless my grandson decides to make his grand entrance into the world that weekend. (I've given him strict instructions that he can only do this on a weekday so he won't upset Grandma's re-enacting schedule.)
I have been to this event twice now, the first time as a spectator and the second as a participant. Fort Ticonderoga is my favorite fort, for several reasons, and if you have never been there, I highly recommend it to you. It is absolutely gorgeous. |

There is a huge event planned for 2008....the 250th anniversary of Abercrombie's failed raid in which he caused the decimation of the Black Watch, and most of it will be on the original battlefield. Work is being done now to prepare the grounds.
If you have to choose when to go, MoGuide, go in 2008.
Ti is a hallowed ground, for sure. Our camps are located on the grounds where the American army camped during the Revolution, and, I swear, you can feel their energy at night.You also can feel it when you march out to the Black Watch Memorial at the edge of the old French Lines, where so much Scottish blood was spilled. We do a nighttime march and Remembrance Service at the Black Watch Cairn, which is deeply moving.
I have been going there for years and NEVER tire of it! The staff at the fort is also extremely knowledgeable and friendly, from top to bottom, paid or volunteer docents, and one of the best museums you will ever see is there. The bookstore is well-stocked with current reading material, should you want to enhance your education, too.
Once there, you will want to keep coming back, as there is entirely too much to take in at one time. Oh, and don't forget to visit the King's Garden while you are there. |

| I was thinking about going to Fort William Henry this year, but now I don't know. Yesterday I was looking at some pics from Rigaud's Raid that was just completed. People are ducking behind cars, hiding beside shops with glass storefronts, etc. This ain't what it's all about. At least not for me. Last weekend I was at Guilford Courthouse Rev War battle. They moved the event from City Park to Price Park. Before there was nothing but trees and hills. Now there is a school, office buildings, major highway, library, etc. In mine, and a lot of others, opinion, the event is just not the same. I will have to think long and hard about going back again. The only good thing is their tactical. It's totally in the woods with no modern things in sight. It's fun to hide in the trees and wait for the red uniforms to appear. Reminds me of the F&I. |

You won't find that stuff at Ti, Fitz, and it would be a great sense of a huge French victory for you to rub in!
I don't know what they have planned for Billy Hank, but there certainly is the potential for a repeat of your Guilford/Rigaud's Raid experience if they are dumb enough to use LG Village and the current fort. My gut tells me that there will be a more fitting and proper event....... |

Guilford Courthouse was not that bad.
Hard to pass up a chance to slaughter Brits at Ti next year, BUT, and I say BUT, if there is a conflict, and I can only make one event in the far north, it will be LOUISBOURG!!!
And what if the Great Mohican Gathering of 2008 comes the same week as Fort Carillon (Ti for you Brits)? What to do??? What to do??? |

You know, that's been talked about for a while, but I guess the ride is too long? Not the location of the movie? The ones who organize the Gathering are not from around Ti? I personally think it would be a great idea, but it would never fly.

| I'm a bit of a history buff, - but definitely not a movie buff. As I recall, the last movie I (at the time "we") went out to see was "On Golden Pond" - and only because it was filmed here in New Hampshire. Enjoyed it actually, but have no desire to "go" see another movie. That scene where they're caught in a storm in the "secret fishing cove" is actually about 20 feet from shore, near a four lane highway, you could probably wade out to it. ;) |

| I believe it was 2001 that Seamus & his clan were here. Fort Ti has always been one of my favorite historical sites; ever since my Dad took me there years ago. It is an impressive fortress & sits in a relatively remote place - it is easy to get the feel for the place & time! |

Methinks the photographer might have been able to find a better location to take his pictures. (??)  Yep, motor vehicles & shoppers did detract from the (otherwise) neat photo.  But...please note that not a single one of the 'civilians' in the background are even bothering to look at our heroes! What does this all mean?  |

The unfortunate thing about the reconstructed Fort William Henry is that it was apparently plunked right in the middle of the already highly commercialized and tourist-ized (but picturesque!) village of Lake George. There is literally no free space around it on which to hold any kind of an event. So, if you want a scenario where a group is attacking the fort, it can only be done on a busy village street, or in a parking lot. Getting a photo of this without any unwanted background is nigh unto impossible.

| Doing an event at Fort WH is like doing Braddock's Defeat on the original site. It is an old steel mill that is now closed. So they picked another location like Old Bedford Village. Maybe that is what needs to be done at Fort WH. Maybe the GE III at Crown Point is where the Fort WH event really should be. It's the correct time, and a better location. Maybe they should just forget about Fort WH having an event and just lay a wreath or something. |
