What is he doing with his hands in the picture just above? Is he placing a ring on his little finger? I wonder what the significance of that is?

I hadn't noticed that. I think all these things had some significance, just don't know what. Kind of like the number of horses feet touching the ground on an equestrian statue. Or the heraldic symbols on coats of arms.
I fondly remember seeing Herman's Hermits live on TV.

I think a beard would help some. It seems Henry always had a beard. But the main thing is the style of the clothes and that he never wears a head covering (or cap if that is a proper term for the 16th century). It looks like they tried to "modernize" it, rather than worrying about historical accuracy.
I think the guy doing Sir Thomas More has it "spot on".

Okay, this Sunday is the season 2 finale!! I was lucky and got to see the final episode already. What a season it was, great way to finish it off!! Anybody else in Mohicanland keep up with this season? Any opinions, discussions, etc?  |

| Having Showtime On Demand we are lucky to always be one week ahead with the episodes so I too saw it last weekend. What a finale it was. I was glued to the screen from start to finish and although I had looked forward to Anne's demise, I felt myself more sympathetic to her especially in the last two episodes of this Season. Henry was the true "bad guy" using women in his quest for a "male heir" and not caring who got hurt in the process. Natalie Dormer won me over with her acting in this series especially this Season. She truly deserves an award for her work on the show as Anne Boleyn. Her performance in the finale was so moving and sad and I could not envision any other actress doing such a brilliant job. It was hard to watch but they did it the correct way with style and dignity at least for Anne. Anyone who is not a fan of "The Tudors" should give this show a chance and watch Season One which is already out on DVD and Season Two will be soon. Excellent viewing. Only criticism is Henry does not "age" much and certainly does not gain any weight unless that will change in Season Three where he is about to marry Jane Seymour. As we all know the "real Henry" was no handsome man in his later years. |

Oh Caitlin it was way better than the first Season. As Natalie Dormer said in an interview, the First Season is just like "laying down the foundation" with people getting to know the characters etc but the Second Season is "full speed ahead" and it certainly was....excellent.
You can always watch it online as well if you can't wait for the DVD. |

| Irish, I totally agree with Natalie's character. I, at first, didn't care for Anne too much since I was a sympathizer for Catherine. But when she married Henry and he started to stray, my heart went out to her. She is an excellent actress and should certainly receive an award. |

Must say it sparked my interst in the English monarch and I started renting all sorts of movies on them and reading books on Henry VIII. I remember going to England as a kid and visiting Anne Boleyn's grave. I kept thinking (remember, I was a kid) why her head was connected. I remembered her name from History class, but wish I would have known what I know now of history to appreciate when I visited the the Tower.

I started re-watching the First Season last night on DVD and got through the first two episodes. Amazing how you notice many more things than you did the first time around and understand much more. I have to say Steven Waddington was excellent as the Duke of Buckingham and I believe he would have made a much better Henry than JRM (too young and not so tall or imposing). Especially as the "older" Henry he would have been perfect. He has the "look". Still I have to admit that even I found the Duke quite, how shall I say "appealing" in a certain way . Never thought I could see "Duncan" in that light but in this role as the "Duke" he is definitely that quite handsome and manly .
There you have it, had to get that off my chest and for those who have not seen him in this role, I highly recommend it even though he only lasts the first two episodes Don't want to give anything away about what happens with his character but let's just say he was not very good at hiding his "true feelings" towards Henry and his reign as "King". |

You're right Irish!! He would have made an excellent Henry! I'm telling ya, Steve was a hottie in this series! I just wish they would have wrote him into more scenes and episodes. Oh well, that's history for ya. But I must confess, I have always been a Duncan fan, sorry gals! I do love me some Uncas but Duncan was just as good! My opinion! |

BBC America is finally showing The Tudors and yesterday they had a marathon of episodes. Something to do with the upcoming wedding, I suppose. Anyway, historical accuracy be damned, the best one was when Henry and Ann were getting married.
Pope Pauli the Third (aka Sammy G) is talking to Cardinal Campeggio (aka Santo Trafficanti) and says "This thing with Henry, something's gotta be done. What about we put a contract out on this Anne person? Badda-bang, badda-boom, no more divorce, capcihe?" "What you say, Pauli. I got this mechanic from Wales, "Lee Harvey" Brereton. We make him a Jesuit, see, and get him to take out this Anne woman." So they make Brereton a deal he can't refuse and he shows up in the London School Book Depository with a match lock he smuggled in disguised as a package of curtain rods. When the motorcade, er, horsecade approaches, he takes his shot, but misses and is slow to reload and can't get off a second shot. And since there is no backup shooter on the grassy knoll, the whole caper goes south. There's an APB put out on the shooter, but "Lee Harvey" Brereton manages to evade Guard Tippit and escape.
Gotta watch the next one just to see what will happen next. Yeah, I read the book, but that doesn't help.
PS: And you know what else? Brereton's parents are burried in the Brereton chapel of St. Oswald's Church in Malpas. Really. Hey, you can't make this stuff up!!! |
