Just wondering what everyone's favorite tv shows are if you have much time to watch the telly that is
Well mine are The Sopranos, Dexter, Amazing Race, Rome, Survivor (yes I still watch and haven't gotten sick of it yet) . I still watch The Apprentice and I am eagerly awaiting the next season of Dancing with the Stars.
My favorite soap of all time was "Dallas". Anyone else have a favorite soap of all time

As a graduate student, I don't have a lot of spare time. Plus, I haven't had cable for 5 years. So you can pretty much guess that I don't watch the tube very often.
I do adjust my rabbit-ears antenna to tune in for "CSI" (the original, not any of the 457 spin-offs it has spawned) every Thursday night, though. At one time I was watching "Shark," which comes on directly after "CSI," but got tired of it. It was the same thing every week.
When "24" starts this Sunday I'll probably get roped into watching it. It's my hubby's favorite show, but I can't say that I care much for it. It's too over-dramatic for me. So many predictable plot "twists" and over-the-top shoot-em-up scenes!  I think it's a "guy" show.
As far as other shows go, I do love HBO programs--Sopranos, Rome, Deadwood, Six Feet Under (though that show was rather like watching a train wreck toward its end!)--but I have to wait till they come out on DVD. No cable means I'm a year behind, but I guess I do get to watch all the episodes back-to-back without having to wait the week in between. (Gotta find a silver lining somewhere, right?) 
I AM pretty darn disappointed that I won't get to see the new season of "Rome" when it starts later this month, though. Grrrr... Looks like I'll have to find a colleague with HBO and invite myself over. 
Oh, and I almost forgot about "Monk." Love that one too, but (again) have to wait till DVD. |

Hey Red I just started watching "Rome" this week and I just love it. I have Charter On Demand so I can watch the show whenever I want which is great. I have a few episodes of the first season to go yet but I am almost there. I too am now looking forward to the new Season. This is a great show for those who have not seen it yet. Just sad that there will be no more "Rome" after this second Season.
I also loved Six Feet Under. HBO does have the best shows. You should try and see "Dexter" a great show on Showtime which just finished it's first season. It is amazing and definitely different. I know you would love it. |

Hey, IG!
I do really want to see "Dexter." I'm interested to see Michael C. Hall in a totally different role. I'm so used to seeing him as the rather fragile David from "Six Feet Under" that I can't imagine him as a serial killer. I'll be adding that one to my Netflix queue, for sure!
As for "Rome," I just love it! I love Ciaran Hinds too. What a diverse actor! I got through nearly all of "Munich" without recognizing him. He makes a great Julius Caesar, I think, as well as Jane Eyre's Mr. Rochester and Persuasion's Frederick Wentworth. He can play a disillusioned spy, a cranky lord, a romantic lead, or even a ruthless Roman general equally well, I think. |

Yes Michael C Hall is amazing as Dexter Morgan a character so different from David Fisher. I could not imagine anyone else in the role but Michael. He deserves an Emmy or some recognition for this part.
Yes I love the characters in "Rome" too. Ciaran Hinds is great as Caesar and I like James Purefoy as Mark Anthony. Good actor and cute to boot. Kevin McKidd is excellent as Vorenus and not to forget the women Servilia and Atia. What amazing actresses Lindsay Duncan and Polly Walker are. This series never ceases to amaze me and I am sure the new Season will be just brilliant with lots of twists and turns. |

OK, here are my favorites, not necessarily in this order:
CSI, CSI Miami, CSI NY, NCIS, NUMB3RS. Yeah, I realize they're NOT predicated on the real world, but isn't that the point of watching? On a more realistic note, Wild West Tech and Good Eats.
There are a few others which were more favoriter (grammar? GRAMMAR?): Stargate SG-1 (the older ones with RDA, not the newer ones with that doofus from Farscape), Babylon 5 (the best of the best), Deadwood (I only watch this show when I rent the DVDs from Blockbuster). Ian McShane is wonderfully evil as Al Swearingen!
Howsomeever, now that I'm a college student again (after a break of 35 years), my TV watching time has been trumped by homework... |

| Hey Obi I used to watch "Lovejoy" and I sure liked Ian McShane. I enjoyed him when he was on "Dallas" the soap and then Linda Gray aka Sue Ellen returned the favor by making an appearance on "Lovejoy". Oh, the memories. |

Hey, Obi! Whatcha studying? Just curious, since I'm a person who'll probably never get out of college. And I definitely know how that homework thing goes. Sucks away any and all time.
Oh, and if we're on the subject of Ian McShane, I absolutely love him as Al Swearingen too. I recently saw him in this Woody Allen movie called "Scoop." Anyone seen it? It's kind of a silly movie, but cute, in a way. |

I forgot to mention "Desperate Housewives" which I also love to watch each week. Thank God for VCR's as I tape most of them and watch when I can although having On Demand really helps when it comes to "Rome" and other premium channel shows. By the way Red, "Rome" is off to a great start already. I am so addicted especially to that Mark Antony scoundrel.

Hi, IG! I was actually able to get my "Rome" fix this week, and I got to watch BOTH new episodes. Woo hoo! It turns out that some of my friends subscribed to HBO this season just for "Rome" and they're going to make Sundays "Rome" night for anyone who wants to drop by. I'll be there with bells on.
As for Mark Antony . . . well, here's hoping there's another bathing scene like last season.  Oops, did I really just type that? 
One of my favorite lines from the last episode? "Have you ever been bitten by a moray eel?"
"Oh yes, please" is all I can say to that! |

Yes, I loved that bathing scene and the full monty scene  oops did I just say that. That Antony scoundrel...gotta love him don't ya? Moray eel  Atia is mighty found of those eel bites isn't she? Poor Vorenus, I feel his pain and so happy with Sunday night's ending. I thought Erastes had really done what he said he did to the kids. Nice to see them still alive. Hope Vorenus finds out soon. Thank God for his good mate Pullo to look out for him like he did.
Okay, sorry for rambling but I could talk about "Rome" all day long. Totally addicted  |

There was one on late last year called "Meerkat Manor" which was really good. Not sure if it's coming back though as we're in our 'summer hiatus'.

Servilia? Not really. Not my type. But then there's Cleopatra. Now when she gets high on opium (or whatever it was) like she did in the first series, well, what can you say? Impressive!!! I look for great things from her in the current one.
And the moray eel thing, kinda makes you think, doesn't it. |

Have to log in from the ether for this one as I'm something of a TV addict, particularly late night TV since I'm a night owl.
Faves:
Like Rich, I'm a Law and Order Addict, all of them, even Criminal Intent. Even though Vincent DeNofrio or however you spell it drives me up the wall.
Also generally like all the CSI's.
Any of the the true to life crime investigation shows, especially "48 Hours" Homicide Investigation on A&E, "Forensic Files" and "American Justice."
The Sopranos ruled on HBO and now they continue to rule on A&E.
Reruns: Addicted to All in the Family and Sanford and Son, also occasionally Seinfeld.
And yes, the animated ones, the more irreverent the better: Family Guy, South Park, King of the Hill, Futurama, The Simpsons, and most of the rest of what's on Adult Swim. I also love Spongebob Squarepants and any rerun of Looney Tunes.
I generally hate reality shows but admit to becoming addicted, unwillingly, to "Project Runway" until they picked that horrible whiney Jeffrey as the winner. I was addicted to "Top Chef' until they made horrible whiney Marcel one of the finalists.
And pretty much anything on Animal Planet, National Geographic, Discovery or the History Channel. |

I've had to think about this one for a while.
I watch practically nothing on the 4 "major" networks: ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. In general, I don't care for lawyer shows, hospital shows (with one exception), crime scene shows, or silly sit-coms. Although, once in a while, a good one in the latter category will come along: "Friends," for example. No reality shows, except for one.
So, what do I watch?
1. Movies, and especially old classic movies.
2. History Channel.
3. A & E, especially when they do period pieces, such as Pride & Prejudice, Horatio Hornblower, and anything on American Colonial History.
4. Public television: Great Performances, any other concert, Antiques Roadshow, American Experience, etc.
5. Home and Garden TV: crafting, design, and gardening shows.
6. The one hospital show: Grey's Anatomy.
7. The one reality show: Dancing With The Stars. (I love ballroom dancing! This one is well done.)
So... call me Weird, I guess. |
