Haaa haa ahaaaaa I know.
If you get the chance try to see the new mini series Blackbeard the Pirate. We had it on here last night as a very long movie but apparently it is actually a mini series. It has Angus McFadyen, Richard Chamberlain, Stacy Keach and Mark Umbers
It's a really good show. But apart from that Mark looks way different to this publicity shot. His hair is longer and he's quite messy for a lot of the time....YUMMMMMY.... I didn't think it was the same bloke when I saw this photo on imbd. I've tried to find some publicity shots from the movie but no luck |
They are all there, but one. I, Chingachgook, Last of the Mohicans. |

You need Indians to play Indians. We don't want to go back to the days when "white men" portrayed Indians on the screen. That was laughable. Slap a bit of warpaint on them and they were supposed to suddenly become Indians, just plain silly. |

I completely disagree with Karl Urban playing Uncas. Uncas is a Native American man and Karl is white. There are plenty of actors of Native descent that can play the role. Karl can play Nathaniel. Adam Beach can play Uncas since they kind of look alike(watch Squanto, where there are scenes of them together). |

Youre quite right! Adam Beach does bear some resemblance to Eric ... I reckon he would suit the role. Image Insert:

I also agree with you LH that Adam Beach would make a great Uncas. He is such a little hottie himself.

I just watched this one last night and it was very good. I thought Angus did a great job portraying Blackbeard. All the cast was really good but Stacy Keach did not have a very big part in it. Mark Umbers is cute alright and I liked the girl who plays Charlotte. Never seen her in anything before. Thanks for the recommendation Leylana as I really enjoyed this one.

Greetings:
On political correctness, can you think of a better 'Scar' than Henry Brandon in THE SEARCHERS?
FYI, he played an Eygptian--commander of the hosts--in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.
Pretty scary guy.

Have not seen The Searchers in quite a while but I recall Scar standing on the hillside just after the family is killed and when they take the girl. Quite scary I would say. |

Not only that, but you need the correct tribe! For instance, in the movie "Cheyenne Autumn," all the Cheyenne were played by Navajo! I understand that what they were saying was pretty raunchy. Navajo viewers think it's hilarious, but Cheyenne viewers aren't too happy at all... |

And....
I just read that Michael Ansara played 'Cochise'. Also, does anyone remember him as 'Lame Beaver' in CENTENNIAL? Did you know he was born in Syria?
Or...
Anthony Quinn--as an arab in LAWRENENCE OF ARABRIA or as Crazy Horse in THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON?

I remember watching Centennial as a child and loved it. I had a crush on Lame Beaver. Even as a girl I "had a thing for Indians". He was quite handsome in that role. Brings back memories alright. Thanks for that "flashback" Diana. |

Can't say that I blame them. I've noticed in recent TV and cinemas that a similar thing is happening. I'm not trying to start something controversial but I've noticed that minority races are being presented as stoneface and strong as steel and the others are being presented as ignorant, sniveling, spineless fools. But it's been this way as long as I can remember only now, it's switched sides. Pretty insulting that man can degrade one another and think it's entertainment. Kinda' high-schoolish for me. Just a simple case and point, in the original The Lone Ranger series, his sidekick was "Tonto", a mexican-indian named "idiot". Pretty low, huh? And by the way, he was played by an italian. |

On that note, check this out. I find it HI-larious. Or perhaps I should say sehr lustig: a bunch of German guys playing American Indians, "Hawkeye" translated into "Falkenauge," and a climax in which "es kommt zum Showdown zwischen den beiden Indianern." Plus, check out the costumes. It appears that the Ft. Wm. Henry massacre has been moved up sometime into the Civil War, or maybe Little House on the Prairie, era! Hee hee...

On the subject of re-casting, I think it's hard to imagine anyone else in the roles. But what about Rosamund Pike as Alice? She was absolutely lovely in the new Pride and Prejudice and in the movie The Libertine, which had very few likeable characters! Can't you just see her as Alice?
