I was thinking about Sachem's decision about burning one of the sisters for Magua's children. What if he chose Alice to be the one burnt? Would anyone want to trade himself for her?
Would it be Cora? And then Nathaniel could suggest himself instead again and die for his beloved one's sister?
Or would Dunkan make his move and try to make up for his lies by saving Alice and then the end of the story would be the same?
Or would it be Unkas to come out and sacrifice?

Great question zinvor. I never even thought about that. Alice being burned in the fire instead of Cora. Well as Nathaniel was there I think he would still have offerred to be burnt in her place and again Duncan, not to be outdone by Nathaniel who already looked way better than him in Cora's eyes, would have piped up and gone once again to the BBQ pit for the roast. Uncas was way out of the picture with Chingy and he was not thought of as highly as his big brother Nate, so they would not have wanted an Uncas roast anyway even had he offerred. The outcome would have been pretty much the same except for Cora being lead away by Magua and she would not have jumped to her death. Also Uncas would not have been running up the cliffside like a madman to save her. Perhaps Nathaniel would have but I think he had more sense than to do that. He would have waited and gone with his brother and Chingy. |

It sounds like being BBQed was Duncan's destiny which he could not escape no matter what.
But then, if we assume that Hawkeye or Duncan would not have volunteered for some reason, Uncas would have had to do something. We know that he just couldn't look calmly at Alice being in trouble. In such case he would have probably met the same fate as he did on the cliffs - likely being killed by Magua or one of his warriors. And then Alice wouldn't have even had the option of ending it herself.. |

That's true. Besides Unkas would've most likely come too late, for he could not hear what was going on. And when he'd finally understood it and run with all his might to save her, she'd be already burning. Unkas would be killed and may be so would Hawkeye because he was alone and unarmed. Yeah, a slaughter could have happened. |
