I saw this incredible film last week, and had to go back and watch it a second time. It is an ancient Inuit story told down through the ages from generation to generation.  It takes place 1000 years ago near Igloolik, Nunavut, Canada. The script was written by Inuits with the help of 8 Inuit elders.  The cast is 100% Inuit, and the crew was nearly so.  It is entirely in the Inuktitut language with English subtitles.  The second time I saw it, it was with an Inupiaq friend who could understand about 2/3 of the language (once he stopped trying to read the subtitles).  He says the translations are very accurate, just missing some of the context of the original language.)  It is from the Inuit point of view, and is... earthy.  Some belching, peeing, and lots of humor, and like all good stories, it has a
moral. It is 3 hours long, so don't drink too many liquids during the movie and use the bathroom beforehand!
If you don't go to another movie this year, see this one.  It is haunting and will stick in your mind for a long time.
Chris
PS- Yes, I am still alive and well. We've just had a very busy summer. If anyone else has reported on this film before, I'm sorry for the repeat, but do see it!
