Here we are May 22nd. Normally I'd be getting excited because it would only be a month till my annual trip to North Carolina. Not having a gathering planned this year is really perfect for me, as I don't have any vacation with my new job. But next year I should be ready to go! I hope we'll have one for sure in 2006. I've truly had some of the "best times" of my life with all of you. And now with June coming up I think about everyone I've met, and all the wonderful places we've visited.
I'm so glad I found this site when I did. I didn't miss out on any..
Wishing you all the best! Donna

I've been to 'em all, too! Although I did feel like a part-timer last year.
Something does feel missing right about now. |

Hi Kay, Last year's gathering was excellent. I had to leave a bit early and it was so hard to go. It's great that you could make it. Now you know how much fun it is. I don't think I would ever lose interest in going. It's a beautiful place to travel to. And, you always meet new people. It's so much fun to do things in a large group. I know I never would have gone river rafting by myself. I'll see you in 2006!
And to Rich, I know you were going through a major life change last year. So it's understandable that you missed some events. Hopefully things will be better next year. We do feel the same in saying we're going to miss seeing the gang this year. But all the hard working organizers deserve the break. Thanks for all the good times so far! Hopefully there'll be more to come!

<sigh> Sure missed seeing you guys this past weekend. It just seemed like something was missing, like I should have been whipping my car around curvy roads in a desperate effort to keep up with the caravan, or slushing through the rain at Dupont, or being horribly sweaty atop Chimney Rock. Wow I sure missed all that. I hope others were thinking of our Gatherings as well and that we have renewed energy and desire to get it organized for 2006! As soon as we can decide on dates I will begin to look into lodging alternatives. Also, I had the oppurtunity to see Bo Taylor from Cherokee this past weekend. He has an 18th-century style Cherokee warrior dance group and they would love to perform for us. So, more to come on that possibility as well. Sure missed you guys. :-( Stephanie |

Steph, That would be wonderful if Bo Taylor and his dance group could perform. He was a hit with everyone last year!!!

On Monday my fearless leaders decided I should get pulled off the God beat for a day and do a "Seven Things that mean It's Summer" story so I found myself heading west up I-26 to our biggest natural landmark -- A MAN MADE LAKE -- to soak up some so-called "atmosphere." Well, I-26 is the route I'm USUALLY takin' this time of year to head up to the mountains and whip around crazy mountain roads with YOU GUYS! OH HOW I WANTED To keep on goin' and hit the Cliff Trail, do some rafting, wander around the Biltmore, listen to some tunes at Spirits on the River... Something just seems missing and it's YOU GUYS and the GATHERING. Just wanted to let you know I miss all of you and am looking forward already to next year... One small consolation, at least I haven't been sent to cover any huge national church conventions again this year! Two years ago, pre-"UnGathering" I got stuck in Phoenix with 9,000 Southern Baptists. the ONLY denomination who could put 9,000 people in a beautiful bar-and-nightclub district and leave all the establishments EMPTY every night...
on to 2006! Red |

Jo, It won't be the same if y'all aren't there. Who else are we going to follow and end up getting lost? Okay, we didn't really get lost, just kind of went the wrong way with the Sweetster sisters leading. Oh heck, y'all have a year to think about it, so y'all still might come anyway. Tell all of the sisters that I said "HI"

Dancers from Cherokee would be wonderful. Please forgive my newbieness (havent been able to make it to a gathering yet)here but is there any chance that DDL will ever come to one? What about more than one of the actors? Probably unrealistic but a girl can dream.
Looking forward to 2006. |

Regarding actors at the Gathering ... a big thrill, yes - but, a royal pain in the arse to incorporate into the thing ... flying them in, airport pickups, food & lodging ... a lot to negotiate! |

Hello All !!!
Wow, it just feels wrong.... This week went by and I wasn't in North Carolina. I was thinking of everyone and wondering if they were noticing the date too. I spent the weekend mowing lawns, trimming my hedges, finally planted my flower bulbs (it's been too wet), changed the oil in my car, vacuumed, and washed it (1st time this summer) and alas noticed my refrigerator is only cooling down to 50 degrees! Not Good!
I thought about the Grand Encampment over at Fort Ticonderoga. I usually go to that if there's no gathering. But this 90 degree weather discouraged me. Plus, I had all that work to do.
I miss everyone. Let's all make a pack to get in shape and be raring to go in 2006! Time flies.... it'll be here before you know it... Stephanie's already getting leads.... Sounds Grrrreat! |

Hi "Roomie" (Donna)!! I too have been feeling the lack of the NC mountains lately. A certain feeling just seems to come over me about the middle of June and it seems to be saying it's time for a Gathering. Since I live in an area that is similar to a lot of the roads we have been on during our Gathering travels, I have really seemed to feel the lack of a Gathering very strongly this year. I take care of my new granddaughter every Monday through Wednesday so am on the roads early in the morning. I haven't had a chance to check the board too often lately, so was really glad to see that you had posted and that things seem to be going pretty well for you. I'm sure hoping to make the next Gathering. Not sure how it will happen if Jayne is there too as she is the back up sitter if I have to be gone. Guess things will work out if they're meant to. Take care! Karen
Christina~If you ever get sent to Indianapolis (they have lots of those church conventions there) be sure to let Jayne and I know, ok?

Many years ago, I had seen a Four Corners slideshow from my Junior High School Earth Science teacher and was very intrigued with the notion of literally being at four places at one time. This had set off a chain of events that included flying into Alberqueque this past June, driving over 1,400 miles to visit places like:
(1) Sante Fe (2) Taos (3) Needles, Canyonland National Park (4) Monument Valley / Mexican Hat (5) Vally of the Gods (6) Canyon De Chelly (7) The "Four Corners"
Some of the highlights were, of course, The Four Courners Monument and also Canyon De Chelly where we hired a local Navajo guide to take us through some very rough terrain in our 4 wheel drive rental. For me, it was like driving for the very first time as I had a lot of fun driving over rocks and through bodies of water. At one point, it seemed like we were on a 45 degree incline and if I went over a rock then in most likelihood we would have tumbled over.
In a sense, we kept with our Indian themed summer vacations. Ate plenty of Frye bread.
BTW, great picture insert of Donna.
Hope everybody has a great summer! Vincent |
