Back in the 70's, I remember watching "Bats"? in the movie theatre just after a slumber party and I had my pillow in front of me the entire time. I would just peek around the corners....
I still peek around my hands watching these flicks .... "shudder" |

I really don't like scary movies. I remember seeing "The Omen" at the movie theater because my friend asked me to go. During the scene where they're in the graveyard and they find his sons' grave and the dogs attack them, I shut my eyes and put my hands over my ears. That was a painful movie to watch.
One scary movie that I do like is "Carrie". I thought it was pretty cool. The ending is perfect with the hand coming up out of the ground grabbing her wrist. We all just about jumped out of our skin!
Of course the first "Jaws" was nerve wracking too and a great movie.
Oh yeah.... how about "Gargoyles". That was pretty creepy. Donna |

Sus...favorite could be taken a couple of ways - I put Poltergiest because it was the only one I could stand to watch again (I don't ENJOY horror films - I'm a scaredy cat). If you had asked my LEASt FAVORITE - I would have voted The Exorcist - that movie scared me FOR YEARS after seeing it.
My daughter LOVES horror movies and went to see The Grudge (?). She had nightmares all night - Word is it is one of the scariest films ever made! *I* won't be casting a vote on THAT one!

My all-time favorite is "The Exorcist", oh yeah!!!! I have the anniversary edition with all of the added footage that was too avant garde in 1973, and it helps add to the story. An interesting sidenote, the statue that figured prominently in the movie was of an ancient Sumerian god named Zanzu. Now old Zanzu may have had his malevolent side, but he is also a protector against illness and pestillence. I found a couple of those statues over in Iraq during the war, and found out that folks there use it as a good luck charm in homes (Alot like a St. Joeseph or St. Anthony figure). I have one that was given to me, and I keep it in my service box of stuff. Back to the movie, my favorite part was during the party when Regan came downstairs and said to the astronaut, "You're going to die up there".
Happy Halloween,

Of the movies listed above, I chose "The Exorcist" because it was kind of a pioneer in the movie industry, and still is a lot classier than some of the others mentioned. The book scared me even more! But...
...the movie that gave me nightmares the longest (and still creeps me out when I think about it) was the original version of "The Haunting", with Julie Harris. The latest version with Liam Neeson didn't frighten me at all because I knew all the scary stuff was computer-generated. The original version utilized a lot of the viewer's imagination, and that is more powerful than any special effects! Still, in the Exorcist when Linda Blair had another voice* coming out of her that was So unlike her real voice, THAT chilled me to the bone! Come to think of it, I believe it was the sounds in "The Haunting" that scared me the most, too! *(I think it was Mercedes McCambridge as the demon's voice, no?) |

Oh, Oh,... I know these aren't particularly really scary, but I love watching "Young Frankenstein", "Beetlejuice", and "American Werewolf in London" around this time of year.

The first time I saw "Halloween" in the theater, I was scared!
The Exorcist and the Omen creeped me out, too...but if I saw them now, they wouldn't.
Even as scary as some movies are, we keep going back for more, don't we?!!!

I own the entire collection of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street. I am such an 80's Horror Buff! But the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was by far my favorite. For so many years I loved the movie and finally decided to see if it was really based on a true story. And to my suprise...it was....very loosely but no doubt it has some facts to it.
If you want to know the truth behind the movie rent Ed Gein. Great Movie. You'll see where the ideas for movies such a Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre came from. |

I found this hot info on "Basket Case" on IMDB- sound like the one?
Basket Case (1982) Directed by Frank Henenlotter Tagline: The tenant in room 7 is very small, very twisted and very mad. Plot Summary: A young man carrying a big basket, containing his deformed Siamese brother is seeking revenge on the doctors who separated them. (more) (view trailer) User Comments: 1 out of 1 people found the following comment useful:- "What's in the basket?", 26 March 2002 Author: Backlash007 from Kentucky Basket Case--a grotesque classic from director Frank Henenlotter. It's the fairy tale story of two brothers separated at age twelve, literally. You see, Duane and Belial Bradley are as close as two brothers can get, they're siamese twins. But they're not quite identical. Belial is an angry, little mutant while Duane is a regular looking kid (except for the mutant protruding from his side). Their father hires a team of doctors to perform an operation to separate the brothers, hoping that Belial will die in the process. But the surgery only makes matters worse, now Belial is free to wreak havoc. Years later, the Bradley brothers travel to New York to find the doctors responsible...and rip their faces off. Basket Case scores with originality. The film has a dirty, grainy quality that is highly reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In fact, everything about this movie is dirty, from the Hotel Broslin to the streets of New York at night. It proves that you can do alot with a little budget; you can tear people's faces off, create a gruesome stopmotion freak, and spawn two sequels. There are some things I didn't like though. The acting for example. I can honestly say that no real actors were used in filming (except the cop, he seemed believable). Most of the people in the film are just plain CRAZY. Also, Duane running nude through the city streets was totally unnecessary. I still enjoy the film's savageness and think it's a great addition to the horror genre. If you don't like Basket Case, don't give up on old Frank. Check out his movie Brain Damage (and watch for the man with the wicker basket). |

Okay, here is one for you movie buffs.... I seem to remember a real cheesy 70's movie about a person with two heads? I think one guy was about to die so they put his head on someone else's body. One head was a black man and the other a white man and they kept fighting for dominance over the body

I voted for the "Exorcist." I saw it for the first time on a dare while in sixth grade and I can honestly say that I slept with a light on for the next year and a half. I'm a huge horror fan and can honestly say that no movie has messed up my mind more than that one. To this day I can't watch it all the way through! |

Yes that movie was indeed Basketcase... Did you know there was a sequel where the little guy found a mate! The movies that had the most impact on me were the ones I seen as a kid in theaters. It's Alive, I went home and ended up having to throw away all my baby dolls because I couldn't sleep thinking they were going to come alive. Black Christmas, Made me think there was someone in the attic. Jaws, Couldn't swim in the ocean for about five years. And I couldn't finish Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I did later when I grew up, but at the time it was too much stress for me. It's Alive has had two sequals, both very cheesy nothing is as good as the origianl. There is one I seen but can only remember one part of the film, I think the rest of the time I was buried in my mothers coat. The scene was a very small man (midget i think) who would sneek into the bedroom of a sleeping couple and inject the man with a needle. Thats all I remember except a tall skinny man who had long hair and was pale. Like the guy from Phantasm but with overalls. Does that ring a bell anyone? |

I think the Texas chainsaw massacre left a great impression because it was based on a true story. Jaws, well, that can be true too and God knows I spent a long time watching my feet in the shower. Actually, I won't go in the ocean above my ankles to this day! I'm not a great scarey movie watcher, you know, the kind who watches between the fingers? Brave eh? I remember a scarey movie but only a part of it. Maybe someone will remember this one. A girl was upstairs of an old two story house. She looked outside to see a couple of guys draging big duffel bags across the yard and into the woods. She went down to look for her friends, (they were young adults), they were all dead except for one girl and she was badly beaten. She wispered to her friend to run, that they would kill her too and promptly died. The other girl heard steps coming closer and ran back upstairs. The guys came in and one noticed a sandle on the stairs, one that wasn t there previously. I changed the channel and I often wonder what happened.
The grudge was stupid I thought. They dont make movies like they used to.
