This is a PA vanity plate that I saw one night this week while walking my dog in North Middleton Township, just north of Carlisle, PA. Needless to say, I was very curious as to who owned the vehicle, but shouting "God save the King!" at the top of my lungs probably wouldn't have been too well received on a residential street at 10 p.m. Was I almost in the presence of a fellow Mohicanlander?

B.W.,

I'm not aware of any of our members who either live in that area nor any who have such a tag. There is a site I found http://fp.enter.net/~kgoodhead/pennsylvania_plate_coding.htm which lists all 'official' PA state tags. It was most likely as you said, a vanity plate.

I do know a unit of the 77th in the Pgh area had a front tag made "77th Rgt", but that's all I can offer you.

Mostly we carry the yellow Rampant Lion battle flag, St. Andrew's cross, GR or Union Jack decals on our posteriors, although I am looking for a "Got Haggis?" bumpersticker.

BW, it belongs to one of the 42nd RHR, Grenadier Company, one of Sjt. Malcolm MacWilliam's people. I think I know who, but I will reserve that in case I err. Was it on a pickup truck? It is, indeed, a vanity plate, and there should have been a decal of the King's Colours on the vehicle, too....AND a St. Andrew's Cross and a Scottish flag.

arrive at the grave safely
in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways,
totally worn out, shouting
'...holy sh*t ...what a ride!'

BookWorm......our 42nd Grens live in and around Carlisle....it could be several people, cause I'm not sure right now who has what??!! Could be Lieut. Campbell or his wife who live near Boiling Springs....not sure what the Widow McLean has....but that could be it if it was a van. Also, not sure if Cpl. MacCrimmon has one of those either, he and his spouse live in Churchtown...and Capt. Campbell has a vanity plate also but he lives near Mechanicsburg....So, where was it and what sort of vehicle? Even the Reverend of St. John's Episcopal on the Square is one of ours, but I don't think he has a vanity plate. We are a very large group....if you come to Ft. Ligonier, the second weekend of October we will be fielding 22 men!! Actually, Sjt. Munro's group and Seamus's Augusta unit will be there also. You really should attend. Later. Pax Aye.....1st Sjt. Malcolm MacWilliam, 77th GrenCoy (also 42nd RHR Grens of the Rev. War)
