Seems the Chimney Rock area has more than its share of problems... the Cajun Pig BBQ restaurant burned down last night. Not sure if any of you who stayed in that area for the Gatherings ever ate there, but you would remember the beautiful building even if you just drove by it. It was on the right side of the road as you head toward Asheville. Hopefully they can rebuild as quickly as some of the other places up there that have suffered fires!

OH MAN! That is AWFUL! I HAVE eaten there and the food is terrific! It was just as beautiful inside as out. Makes one wonder if an arsenist is alive and well in CR. You know the Esmeralda Inn burned at least two times also! Hmmmm, wonder if some of those magical stories are true about the area!

Waah!!
Every time I'm in Chimney Rock I think I'm gonna eat there. Never did and now it's too late! Hope they can rebuild, too, Stephanie!

WHAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!! Well, I DO, Stephanie! I mean, I KNOW you wouldn't lie or kid about a thing like this but... I can't believe that THIS lovely place has been decimated by fire too!!!!
Diana and Marcia and I were eating there last October and 'Red' met up with us there - and the food looked so good, she ordered too!!! THE FOOD WAS WONDERFUL!! The eating area was great!!! It was convivial and the people were so friendly and helpful!! I bought a bag of 'Cajun Pig Famous Rib Rub' which I'm still using and it is SOOOOOO TASTY!!!!!!!
Guess WHAT ELSE I bought there?????? "The Living Legacy of Hickory Nut Gorge' (an AUTOGRAPHED COPY NO LESS!! ) - a book about Chimney Rock, Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge... and it mentions the Cajun Pig AND the history of the Esmerelda Inn. Some of you may not know that Lew Wallace, author of 'Ben-Hur', was a long-time guest at the Inn.
And just another little bit of info from the book - the Cajun Pig was not TOTALLY NEW. Part of the stage was made from wood taken from the building that was central to the movie 'Dirty Dancing'! So... there ye go...
And now it's gone... *sniff, sniff*... ALLLLLL GONE... *more sniffs*...
I was saddened to see that it (The Esmeralda Inn, I mean) was closed when we were there for the Gathering... * MORE BIG SNIFFS!*...
