Now, I know that this movie is a bit of a sore point for some members of this community. (I think Scott Bubar and I are about the only ones here who accept it for what it is, and really like it.) But I hope you all agree that the music is gorgeous. I just purchased (finally!) the CD, and I love it.
I have long been a fan of composer John Williams, ever since he burst on the scene of fame with his score for Star Wars. And for me, the music of The Patriot is yet another on a long list of beautiful soundtrack scores that he has written. A very talented man and one who, I believe, will become one of the future's Classical Composers!

Why is "The Patriot" a sore point, or is that the wrong question to ask? I had always heard that it was a good movie. I never saw it myself, so I can't really give an opinion, but like I said, I always heard good reviews about it.

No, Kay, it isn't the wrong question to ask. I really don't think it is anything that is sensitive... just differing opinions. Some of our very knowledgeable re-enactors here had problems with the lack of authenticity, among other things. But rather than get into the whole thing, you can go to this thread to read the posts. Be sure to follow both links titled "The Patriot" that are provided in that thread. |

The Brits actually were pretty sensitive--some of them incensed--about it. One of their historians turned around and did a major (and inaccurate) character assassination of Francis Marion. I can't say why without introducing a major spoiler, and Kaylynn hasn't seen the film.
Also, a lot of folks felt the treatment of the black people in the film showed things as far rosier than they were in reality.

Yes, that's right, Scott. The English were quite upset over their, and Tavington/Tarleton's portrayal. (I actually meant that I didn't think folks in Mohicanland were particularly sensitive about it, or were "fighting" over it.)
Another controversy was the scene that involved your signature quote. My thoughts on that are: that incident involving young boys being involved in war could actually have happened. Most likely it did in one way or another.
Kay, I hope that you will plan to watch it sometime. I think it is well worth it. |

i wuv the patriot! its a good movie...
but is it just me, or does mel gibson like to have a dead wife and lots of kids? he seems to do it all the time... (patriot, signs, little weapon, will think of more^^) |

My 4g grandfather was 12 when he first got involved in the war. |
