Dear Fellow Mohicanites,
Rich is asking for suggestions for the 2003 Gathering page. Knowing how many creative people are out there, I'm sure we can give him a plethora of ideas. My suggesion was spurned on by Rich himself who states:
quote:
... We MUST Be Crazy ... The 6th Annual!

With that we should use Paul Simon's "Still crazy after all these years." Where else could you find lyrics perfectly suited for the gathering?
quote:
Four in the morning Crapped out Yawning Longing my life away I’ll never worry Why should I? It’s all gonna fade

Good Lord, like the rest of you I needed a vacation after my sister-in-law and I attended a Gathering. I think half of my energy was sapped trying to navigate the Smoky Mtns. late at night and early in the morning!

Well, I know Rich's and his family are musicians, I sure we can rewrite a few lyrics. And sorry if I'm posting this is in the wrong spot. As a newbie to the new board, I'm still trying to figure out where to post everything.

Looking forward other suggestions,
Christie

Another thought. What about something by Bill Miller? That is, of course, if he would give us permission to use it. Seems like good advertising to me.

Well, I gave this some thought...Crazy by Patsy Cline came to mind, as did We Are Family by Sister Sledge...but I rather like Christie's suggestion...so....just for you...an amended version...

Still Crazy After All These Years (apologies to Paul Simon)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Met these strange people in N.C. last night
They seemed so glad to see me, I just smiled
And we talked about Chingachgook, and we drank ourselves some ping
Still crazy after all these years
Still crazy after all these years
I'm not the kind of gal/guy tends to socialise
But the Pot Luck dragged me right out of my shell
And I can't resist the whisper of Uncas/Cora in my ears
Still crazy after all these years
Still crazy after all these years
Four in the morning, tapped out, yawning
Driving to Green Knob half dead
I'll never worry, why should I?
I'll sleep when it's done
Now I sit in the convoy and I watch the flags ahead
I fear I've done some damage to my knees
But I would not miss the 'Death March' cos I am sure that you'll agree
We're crazy after all these years
Still crazy, still crazy
Still crazy after all these years.
TaDa!!
Dear Huggy Merchant,
That was perfect! Paul Simon's lyrics in this song are rathering depressing, but your version hits the nail on the head! I sang right along as I was reading your post.
In his weekly post, Rich said someone anon. sent a suggestion for "Moon River" and Ilse added:
quote:
How about "Moon Dance" from Van the Man Morrison? Or "Bad Moon Rising"????
Of course, this all goes along with the breechcloth photo, but think what a picture we'd have if everyone at the Gathering had their best face forward I could just imagine what the local papers would say about that one! Even if Rich grabs something else, I vote to have your lyrics added to 6th annual booklet. The only addition I'd suggest is in the line
quote:
And I can't resist the whisper of Uncas/Cora in my ears
Bless your heart, you put Uncas first but I know all the other Mohicanite fans out there would squawk if we excluded their favorite character including: Hawkeye, Soldier #2, Maqua, Alice, Duncan. Ha, maybe we should say:
Insert favorite character name here!
Anyway, I love your lyrics and know I'll be singing the song to myself all day.
I like Fitz's suggestion, something by Bill Miller would be very appropriate and well within Six Degrees - he is Mohican, after all!
The tune that REALLY keeps playing in my head is "Promentory" - you hear this as the Hurons are hiking along the Cliff Trail at Chimney Rock, with Alice in tow. It continues on until the end of the fight scene with Chingachcook and Magua. Somehow I was hearing that same tune in my head as all of us hiked the Cliff Trail at this year's Gathering - and as we took "The Death March" through Dupont State Forest! My feet and ankles will never be the same! The beauty of those places made it all worthwhile, of course and I can't wait to do it all again next year!
