Greetings all, just wanted to let those out there whom I've corresponded with know that I'm still breathing & update you on what I've been up to as of late.
Most of last year I had some health issues that were finally resolved last month with surgery. Hopefully I'll be 100% soon!
Recently I was named (Western) Washington commissioner for the Clan Mackay Society USA, & have started full-filling that obligation.
It was at a local highland games a couple weekends ago that my living history interest took a new direction.
While a couple of us "vets" were sitting around the Mackay booth, we kicked around the idea of combining living history with our love for all things Highland Scots, & thus after some discussion & contact with regimental hq we were authorized to form a company of the 84th ROYAL HIGHLAND EMIGRANTS here in our corner of the world! (Our secondary impression is the pro-Hanoverian militia known as the Mackay Independent Coy 1745-46).
As of yet I'm still awaiting coy & brigade designation, but I look forward to working on my 84th impression.
My persona's name will be "John Scobie", named after my 6th great-grandfather John Scoby born 1740 in Scotland & emigrated to the colonies in 1760 (eventually to settle in east-central Kentucky, where he died at about the age of 90).
I look forward to updating you all on our progress & will post a brief history of the 84th RHE's for those interested.
Aye...

Welcome back, Lad! It is good to know you are among the living and breathing! Your impression will be a fun one to develop, and you will have a great time doing it. I hope we can meet sometime at some event!
I just read your History in another Post, and I must say that those lads were quite active, weren't they? I wish there was a way to turn back the clock and actually see them! WOW! Wouldn't that be a hoot??
Wonder what they'd think of us........after they quit laughing, I suppose........! |
