Top of the Morning to you all!

Before I get into the meat of this Weekly Update - and it's the first one in quite some time that I'm really excited about - let's tend to some business ... Running a bit behind in this stuff [due to minor things like a tree laying on my house & a little girl to undergo her second surgery in 2 months tomorrow AM ], so I'll try to catch you up here - been a little scatter-brained, of late, so forgive if'n I repeat myself!

Yesterday, I attempted to send out a Board Newsletter - which turned into 4, and I still didn't get the whole message across! - but the text kept unexpectedly truncating. Don't know the cause ... probably an operator error! Anyway, for those of you on that mailing list, I apologize for the mass of mail! I was trying to say, this:

New On The Board:
  • Anonymous Posting: Briefly, as this has been covered, but was intended for many of the Newsletter folks who aren't registered members of this Board, it allows one to post anonymously, as a guest, in the Last of the Mohicans forum only. Past experience teaches me that some folks don't post simply cause they are afraid, to some degree, of exposing themselves on the Internet. I would imagine a large portion of the Newsletter mailing list might fall into that category. Well, this MOD [modification to the Forum's code] allows one to post and no one, not even me, can tell who you are ... unless I go through the trouble of comparing IPs in the database - that's reserved for the "troublemakers." No e-mail addy, nothing ... just post. Registered members can simply ignore this & proceed as always.
  • My Topics: You might have noticed another little icon appearing next to the "jump to last post" arrows in the forums. This indicates topics began by you and threads in which you have replies. It's a simple "locater" aid for you. You must be logged on for these to show, of course, so that the forum knows who you are!
  • Topic Notelets: Ok, I'm having Deja Vu! Did I talk about this stuff last week? Ah, what the heck ... These are little "post-it note" type "flags" for posts. They are experimental right now, as I haven't figured their best use yet. Each forum can have a different configuration, if need be, and they can be set to allow various groups of users to see & utilize them within the specific forum ... that can be just the Administrator [me], just the Moderators [of which there are 7] who assist me in maintaining order here , just registered Members, or all visitors. Right now, in most forums, I have them set for all moderators to use only. In two, The New Deal & the Birthdays & Personal Stuff forums, I have them allowed for all members - so that everyone has a chance to see them in action. There are quite a few possible uses; I just haven't decided on which way, or ways, to go. Feedback is most welcome if you have an idea!
  • Birthdays: Not yet, but soon, will be re-implemented. Every time your birthday rolls around, it'll be automatically "announced" on the front page of this board. I get great pleasure, as you know, in embarrassing folks in that manner! However, you have the final say, because you need to edit your profile in order for this to work. Use the "date-picker" contraption that is already in place, to set your birthday [follow the instructions carefully]. I hope at least some of you do so, for that is the only way I can tell if the thing works once all the pieces are in place! CURRENTLY WORKING!
  • Web Links: OK, I know I've mentioned this already! Submit any web site for inclusion on the board's link page at: Web Links. Some of you have already done so ... if there's a need for a new category, just let us know! For Sale or Wanted ads should not be pla

Forgot one thing!!!

The "essay" to which Mr. Williams refers when he says, "A deconstruction of Twain’s famous critique of Cooper, for example, applies Twain’s approach to Twain’s own work. This essay is as incisive, well written, and analytical as any number of works of academic literary criticism." [jeez, that's high praise!!! ] can be found at MR. TWAIN'S CRITIQUING OFFENSES in our Off the Beaten Trail section ... penned, if it isn't already obvious, by Lainey, the one & only ...

Whoa.

This is way too much to digest at one sitting.

And I don't even have a tree on my house.

Moderators? They must operated seamlessly.

Post-it notes will have to wait until I figure out some of the other gadgets.

The site a piece of Americana?

Of course!

Wishing the best for the little girl...
