Here's hoping everyone on the Gulf Coast [hurricanes] & those in the DC/Maryland/Virginia [bizarre shootings] are A-OK!!!

A lot on the Gathering [2003] front, in the way of thoughts, but first ...

Topic Sorting: I added that feature awhile back, but enhanced it greatly yesterday. Within any forum, you can now sort the posts in virtually any order you desire. In addition, I am able to set a default order for each individual forum - the default for most forums is to sort by the last post date in a thread, in descending order. In a few, like The Tales MacWilliam, Thought For The Day, and this one, The Weekly Update, I have made the default to be sort by the original post date. This way, they stay in order, regardless of replies. You can manually override these defaults by using the Topic Sorting Function at the bottom of every forum. "Sticky Topics" will not be affected - they always stay up top. Happy sorting!

Photo Album Suggestion: Consider utilizing an album in conjunction with a free Classified Ad - to show off your wares! Just an idea!

Mailing List Quandary: We've got several mailing lists going, most of which you need to voluntarily sign up for, i.e. the Board's Newsletter & the Gathering List. We also have the web site update mailing list & the board's members list and the ... well, you get the idea! We apologize for duplicate mailings! Trying to consolidate a bit, though. REMINDER: Keep your addy up-to-date in your Profile & mailing lists!!!

2003 Gathering Thoughts: I know, I know ... it's only October! It's amazing how time flies, though, and I'm not one to leave these things to the last minute ... Most everything is NOT yet official - and subject to change - except the dates, most likely the duration, and the movie ...

Movie Theater: Booked, for Saturday, June 21. So, for the 6th consecutive Gathering, we get to see LOTM on the big screen!

Day One: More than likely, CRP for a half day ... the second half of this day could be one of several things, including

  • Nothing - just relaxation
  • A special group event - a concert, or something similar
  • A Biltmore Estate tour - Considering this, though if implemented, this might turn out to be the most expensive Gathering of all. I'm awaiting a plan from Biltmore. If they can offer up a suitable customized Mohicans tour, it's a definite possibility. See: A Day At Biltmore for a look at some of the sites from Gathering 2000.

The Burial Ground ... off Mohicans Road at Biltmore!

The Nolichucky: Tom Hensley, of USA Raft, is looking forward to doing it again with us. He's putting together a package, as we speak, to offer us. So, that's still in the cards ... or is it DuPont??? Cast Your Ballot!!! See: Mohican Board Polls Remotely, it's possible we'll do both. It depends ...

... on how my compatriots fare on the Mohican Games, Cherokee Adventure, and Chimney Rock Park "negotiations." In the near future, we ought to have selected a lodging place for those seeking group accommodations.

As for expense, it'll still be a bargain! The reason I say it'll be the most expensive is, for starters, if we do go to 5 days, as it appears we will, there's an extra night of lodging right off the bat. That is, of course, if you opt for the whole she-bang. I suspect, there'll be more than a few shaving a day off, either in the beginning or the end ... Then, there's a lot of "pay" activities ... CRP, Biltmore, Nolichucky, Cherokee, Mohican Games ... they all

We MIGHT do BOTH???! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO! COUNT ME IN! My bruises, bumps & sunburn from this year's trip down the Nolichucky have long since faded, and the blisters on my feet from the hike to the four waterfalls in the DuPont are gone, too. I've dropped 13 pounds (so far) & I plan on being much more fit & ready for the next wilderness advent'cha in 2003!

And THIS time, if/when I go "swimming" in the Nolichucky again, I'll still be dreaming of being pulled from its waters by DDL!

Just touching base to let everyone know that Cherie and I haven't been shot yet. The shooting that occured last Friday is only a few short miles from our home. Cherie goes that particular Michael's store on an extremely regular basis. We drive right past the darn thing at least a handful of times a week. The gas station we both use is in plain sight of both Michael's and the Pizza Hut where they think the guy shot from. If they can't catch this guy soon, I'm gonna have to start checking the prices of bullet proof vests on Ebay!

In regards to the "6th and Last Gathering"... I'm hoping we'll get to do both the rafting and DuPont. BUT, I'm just looking forward to seeing friends again.

Gees, Marc, you guys stay safe. As I'm typing this I'm watching FOX News and the reporting of a sniper shooting of a 13 year old boy at a school there in Maryland.

On a lighter note, GO BRAVES!!
