Well folks,

In just 10 hours Cecelia and I will be leaving our little town here in eastern NC to begin our trip that will find us in Chimney Rock next Wednesday. We are going to my Mom's tonight to drop off my daughters (well...one of them is my dog!) and we fly out of Charlotte heading to Phoenix tomorrow morning bright and early! Going to a stupid ole meeting - otherwise I'd be heading to CR like you guys on Saturday - Oh Well - might as well make the best of it! So Friday, while you guys are all packing, we'll be lounging by the pool and floating on the lazy river at the Desert Inn Resort and Spa

I've packed all the food for the Games (BOY, am I glad THAT parts over!) and all is ready for a lip smackin' Pig Pickin' on the 26th. Mmmmmm, you ought to taste those collards (already frozen and ready to ride!)

A few reminders about Games Day - remember to bring plenty of water as we'll be out HOPEFULLY in the sunshine for a long while. I'm bringing Tea and Lemonade for the Pig Pickin' and I love all you guys, but I ain't cartin' a motherload of water up to the games fer ye with everthang else I'll totin'! Seriously, don't forget a couple of bottles of water! I think Ann or possibly the FBs will have soft drinks for purchase too.

Regarding the Geneva - if any of you have any questions or changes or need to touch base with someone about rooming issues, Theresa has all my info and will be there on Saturday. She'll be in room 20 if you need to reach her - if you don't find her there - CHECK THE TIKI BAR!!!! She and Cherie will probably be hanging out there (just kiddin' girls! ). I'll be checking my email periodically, but not like normal, so contact Theresa if you need help in a jiffy.

Everyone have a safe trip and I hope I don't land on ya when I come diving into a raft on Wednesday morning Gotta run and finish packing AND cleaning because when I get back home I'll have Kate with me and remember SHE is the one that irons SHEETS!

The French Broad folks will indeed have soft drinks and water for sale at the site on Games Day. The revenue raised from the sale will go to help the Muzzleloaders maintain their site (and was the least we could do to thank them for all their generosity...contributing the site, setting up and supervising the competitions, providing extra hawks and longrifles, powder, shot and instruction to those interested in learning the arts of the longhunter). So, no need to haul extra fluids with you...they will be available.

Safe journey, everyone!

GG,

You and Cecelia have a great time down there in the ole southwest! My son lives in Tucson, so I keep tabs on the temps. Looks like it'll be about 100 - so enjoy that pool!! I know...it's a DRY heat. Ha,ha,ha!

Seriously, have a safe trip and we'll be anxious to see you on the N. River on Wednesday! In a raft, mind you. No duck-bruises for me this year!

You have a problem with that, Smurfie?!?

Hard to believe the time is upon us and folks are already heading on out to Mohicanland - reality version. Safe trip to all.

As for me, though usually I come down to Chimney Rock the day before to lend a hand, I more than likely won't appear until 8:30 Sunday morning this time around. I think things are well in hand at the Geneva. The Park is not allowing the Hurleys in just for breakfast - without paying full admission, that is. Same thing happened to Elaine & some of our kids a few years back when they tried to join us for dinner only. Cheap skates they are! Let 'em know what you think!

I've been fed up with CRP for years - this is the last straw. If anyone thinks of a solution, let Eric & Sharon know!

Meanwhile, those of you left behind here, keep the flames burning!

I will try to post a brief recap and a photo each day to keep you abreast.

Happy Trails to All!

It has to do with money. Corporate sponsors pay for their people to carry the torch on various legs of the journey in return for advertising. Just like the Super Bowl. Any time you think to yourself "Why?", it probably has to do with money.

Regarding CRP:
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I might be!) but isn't the ticket booth UP the road from the pavilion? In other words, am I correct in saying that one doesn't need an admission ticket just to get in the entrance gate? I know they check our names off a list at the ticket booth up the road, but do they check our names at the entrance gate that morning? I honestly don't recall. Ideas?

GG & Cecelia! You'll be right down the road again! Is that the same place you stayed at the last time?

That's ridiculous that CRP won't allow them in for breakfast, but I hope that things work out.

I hope everyone has a safe trip!
