At the conclusion of the classic western, Lonesome Dove, grizzled ex-Texas Ranger, Captain Woodrow F. Call, stares deeply into the rubble of a burned down Dry Bean Saloon ... the only thing distinguishing it as such being the old piano once played by Lippy.

As he gazes, a reporter runs up to him anxiously seeking a story from this famed man. Woodrow ignores his questions and continues to peer at the ashes. Finally, the reporter says, "They say you are a man of vision."

Call's mind strays ... he runs down, in his mind, the list of deaths and other casualties caused by his "vision" ... Jake ... Deets ... Augustus ...

He snaps out of it. Through teary eyes, he calmly says, "A man of vision, you say? Yeah ... a hell of a vision."

Powerful, powerful stuff.

Sometimes, I feel a lot like Captain Woodrow F. Call. Through the years, I've been praised for having the "vision" to build and nurture this place.

I don't know. "Vision," perhaps, had nothing to do with it. Each time that accolade is tossed my way, I too begin to run down the list of "casualties" caused, in some way, by this web site. No need to run 'em down by name - you know who they are. Unfortunately, the list is much longer than Call's. The latest - and most serious - such casualty is my marriage to Lainey ...

Yeah, a hell of a vision!

Somethings just seem out of balance. It breaks my heart to think of this place...a place that brings such fun, laughter, and meaning to so many people can also be a place of heartbreak and sadness for those that created it.

We are all thinking of you, Rich...and Elaine. Please take care and know that there are those among you who love and care for you deeply.

I don't even know what to say in response to the pain that you're feeling, Rich. I hate to think that running this website contributed in any way to your separation (and it's certainly none of my business), on top of all that your family has been through with little Sophia. There's no question about what is most important.

I'd like to think that maybe things aren't finished yet for you, that there's hope. And maybe, a new vision.

As trite as it sounds, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Rich,
I wasn't sure how to respond to this one but I think Dances with Beagles said it well: I, too, would hate to think that this website has contributed to the demise of a marriage.
And at the risk of sounding trite:
It ain't over till it's over!
Think about this: you and I both know people who have seperated then, against all odds, got back together, and the marriage was stronger than ever. Now, none of my business here and I'm not asking, and I'm not guessing at what may or may not happen. Just take that for whatever it's worth.
And by the way, this means we have another favorite movie in common?
Love to you and your family, (unconditionally)

Rich,

I'm fairly speechless - except that I'm so sorry for the pain you're experiencing. I hope you'll find strength and peace as time passes.

Yes, Steph, for sure we do!!! I love Lonesome Dove. Might very well be the best overall production ever!

Anyway ... listen folks ... there's no need to do or say anything. [Though it was a very nice surprise to receive a phone call from Jo last night!! ]. I'm not looking for responses or strokes or anything. I just need to vent is all. I sometimes post things impulsively [c'mon, that doesn't surprise you now, does it? ]

And, of course, it is a waaaay too big oversimplification to imply that this web site caused the situation I now find myself in. Some of the interactions here during the years certainly contributed. Perhaps - no, for sure - so did my addiction to it. I have no one to blame but myself. So, no guilt trips here, guys. Nothing you can do. Nothing you've done.

My bed ... I lay in it. Just wish it were a bit softer.
