Well, how about a little mini-gathering. I will be going to Asheville to meet up with some friends. Does anyone know of a good restaurant in Asheville for us to have lunch at? Any help is appreciated!!!

Hi Kay,
Just got back from Asheville a couple of weekends ago. If you want to visit an elegant historic Inn and don't mind dining a bit upscale, you might try the Grove Park Inn. They have several restaurants inside AND there is a signed photo of Daniel Day Lewis on the wall in the Vanderbilt Wing hall, plus you drive right by The Manor Inn (you have to go around back to see the part in the film), which is where General Webb's office and part of Albany was filmed. AND (thanks to Dale Wasson for showing this to us at the Ungathering last summer) just up the street is a Fuddrucker's that has a signed plate by Wes Studi on the wall (just over the door, look back and up after you enter). Here is link to the dining options at the Grove Park. As a side note - F. Scott Fitzgerald lived there the later part of his life and until his death.

Next, I have to suggest a fav of mine and Christina's...Jack of the Wood, a Celtic style Public House and Eatery. See link below to check out the menu and such

While in Asheville most recently, we tried a little Caribbean/Mexican place downtown (just down the road from Jack of the Wood - both on Patton Ave.) They had AWESOME Mojitos! See link below that talks about it and other places to see in Asheville.

Incidentally, Asheville was just listed No. 8 in the Top Ten Best Places to Live!!!
HAVE FUN!!!!!! Steph? Any other suggestions?

Thanks Di. I will look them over. I have a feeling that since you mentioned that Grove Park Inn was upscale, I will probably have to pass on that one. My hubby will be with me and his idea of an upscale restaurant is when we don't order off of the dollar menu at Wendy's or McDonald's. I just checked Jack of the Wood and it won't do because they don't open for lunch. Their hours are from 4:00 PM- closing. Come on ,get that brain in gear and think of some more. Of course, I could stop being lazy and just check on the internet for some restarants, couldn't I???

Try the 28806 Deli, right next to the West Asheville Post Office on Patton Avenue. Rumor has it that a place called Fatz ain't bad, neither! |

And let's not forget Spitits on the River. I just introduced some friends to it about three weekends ago. I highly recommend the Buffalo Chili and Avocado Salad (w/jalapeno cucomeber dressing) for lunch AND you can't leave there without having an Ice Cream and Berries Sundae - served over the most delicious Fry Bread you EVER tasted!! Three of us split it and there was plenty for all. ALL very reasonably priced!! Let me know if you need directions!

For what it's worth, and not much, my sisters and I stayed one of the hotels near the "Tunnel Road" exit, there's a huge mall type thingy there at that what, exit 7? A VERY Good book store as there is downtown Ashville, with a coffee shop; maybe not there as this was three years ago. Do watch the one way streets downtown....and everything seemed to close at 9pm...
