No explanations necessary, but nothing new to report on the web site/board addition front. Christmas was wonderful in the Federici House - and, from a Postal perspective, I am very glad it's over ...

Now - a problem. Remember a while back I mentioned that my web host was installing a server-side spam filter? Well, at long last, it's installed. Probably, a conservative estimate would be that I receive 2400, or so, E-mails per day. The vast majority are spam. Yesterday, I received about 15!!

Sounds pretty good, yes?

Well, hold on. In the process, my outgoing mail has ceased to function. Not sure how long this has been going on, but at least for the past 24 hours. I first noticed it when I sent out a group Gathering E-mail yesterday morning. I sent it out to every person who has been on a Gathering information list since 2001. A lot of names! I never received mine. Since some of the E-mail addresses on the list are 3 years old, many are expired & should have bounced back. Not a one. So, my guess is, if you are on the list you never got yours, either.

When you read this, I would ask that you send me a quick test E-mail so I can better judge when it's fixed. If I don't reply, send me a private message via this board on your next visit telling me you sent an E-mail. I gotta get this fixed!

So, here's the E-mail - A Gathering Enticement, of sorts:

Hi ex, current, & wannabe Mohican Gatherers!

That's right! One week from today, on Saturday, January 3, 2004, the 2004 Great Mohican Gathering Sign-Up & Registration Period will officially begin. We look forward to seeing you there!

Currently, we expect about 100 people to be in attendance. Gathering - a full, scenery & event packed, 7 Days - runs from Sunday, June 20 - Saturday, June 26, and is scheduled to include:

* Russell Means in person!
* All day rafting trip down the Nolichucky River including a visit to LOTM's River Rescue site!
* Exclusive visits to private locations on the beautiful Biltmore Estate
* Native-fare dinner at Spirits on the River, with a personal & intimate concert by Joanne Shenandoah [Iroquois]
* LOTM on the BIG SCREEN!
* Gathering mainstays: locations visits to the Cliffs of CRP, waterfalls of Dupont Forest [including the River Walk], the many locations in and around Linville Gorge
* Soldier #2
* The Mohican Games & Pig Roast, including eclectic period music by The String Beings - try YOUR hand at black powder shooting!
* Rare visits to The Elk Hunt & Tracking the War Party locations
* Period storytelling and history by FWH reenactor/artist/historian, Tim Cordell
* Life of leisure at the Geneva Riverside Lodge
* Raffles & Ariel's Auction
* Program Guide & Caravan Flags & T-Shirts
* Lots of little extras and maybe more!

So, sometime next Saturday, look for the forms to be published on the web site. Consider making a Mohicanland trip you won't soon forget! We will be accepting registrations via 3 payment methods: check or money order, credit card [MC & Visa Only], and PayPal.

View all the current details - right now - at: 2004 Great Mohican Gathering

It ought to be good. Will be even better if YOU'RE there!

Born [here,] on the Mohican Board, the tradition continues ...

Thanks, friends ...
Rich

Two things:
  1. Of course, it's now only 6 days away!
  2. For some inexplicable reason, I failed to mention our Cherokee Adventure! A trip unto itself, and one without climbing mountains or paddling a duck! Relaxing! Two meals included, a visit to the Cherokee museum, a visit to a 1750's recreated village, and the outstanding nighttime, outdoor, drama, Unto These Hills.

Greetings to you Rich!

I didn't receive the email yesterday, so will try to send you a test message in a few minutes. Happy "Christmas-is-over" to you (as far as the US mail, anyway). I thought of you the two times I had to stand in line at the branch near me! Busy, busy! And such grouchy, complaining people even though the lines were moving fairly quickly. These holidays just bring out the best in folks, don't they???

Anyway, I for one am looking forward to Jan 3rd and registering for all the outstanding Gathering 2004 activities. Can't wait to get back to one of MY favorite places - and to see all those old friends again and meet the new.

Just a quick note about Ariel's Cabin - I received a link from Ariel's parents yesterday. Take a look for a recent article in the Edmonton Sun about Ariel. It brought a tear to my eye - and makes me feel all the warmer about everyone's efforts to make Ariel's Cabin a success in years past and again in 2004.

Sorry - guess the link is no longer good. I've contacted Ariel's mom to see if she can send a working link.

Thanks to those who sent on E-mail ... no longer necessary, though. Problem is halfway rectified ... I can now send & receive mail from my computer using Outlook, but ... my group mail program [used for mailing lists] and web based stuff - from the board, for example - still do not appear to be functioning. Tech is working on it, they say.

I'm going to try something in a bit - letting the Gathering list go via a differnt account & see what happens - never a dull moment!

Here is the return email from Ariel's parents. PLEASE, PLEASE read the article about little Ariel !!

Hello Jayne:

I have enclosed the article as a PDF for you, as well a link off of noeyes.com. Sorry I didn't realize that the Sun only posts them for 24 hours on their website.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask...
