Plenty! It was very weird staring at this Board for a few days there, with no one posting. I just couldn't get a feel for it. Once our domain was switched, and you all gradually have made your way here, it began to take shape, and, I like it!!!!! I really do - not that I don't miss the old WWWboard, because I do, but I feel ... reinvented, or something along those lines. A new start can be good. So, I will keep the old Board squarely in my heart, but, at the same time, I'm gonna enjoy what this place has to offer ... and, that's plenty!
For that warm & fuzzy feeling, though symbolically blackened, go to the Old MOHICAN BOARD
You can read The ARCHIVES by clicking here. They should be there in their entirety, unless I overlooked something. Let me know!
Here's what I've learned, to date ... perhaps you're way ahead of me!
- Anyone can "lurk" ... that's good. I can set up "private" forums, by invite only, but that's not necessary, I don't believe.
- If you want to participate, you need to register [see little link in upper right-hand corner]. Then, you need to sign-in. You don't do that, you can't participate, only lurk. This is good, too, and should certainly eliminate many of the problems we had at the old cgi-run Board!
- You can go back & edit your post at any time!!! Now, that is really, really good! No more, "oops, I meant ...".
- As a moderator, I love it ... very easy, and practical, to deal with ... what I don't like, at least so far, is that I haven't been able to figure out how to let you guys begin your own threads [forums] ... you can, within my pre-selected topics, but that's it. So, if there is a need for a new "forum" let me know. If appropriate, I'll set it up for you.
- The HTML feature is something I have always wanted... and, I've even got it turned off! As is, one can use the basic coding like bold & italics, insert URLs [as many as you want!] & insert pics [also, as many as you want], etc. You cannot, however, insert malicious scripts & stuff that'll mess up the Board and/or the Site. Hence, I've got what is called the "forum code" turned on, and HTML turned off. Still, a major upgrade!
- I like the "member" feature.
- Not sure I like the number of views of each post being visible. My word, folks would get sensitive to their posts not being responded to ... what if they now know that they're not even being read???!!! Be strong, folks, be strong ... lurkers will read what is of interest to them, it's that simple.
- And, lastly, for now, I can set up unlimited Boards, with cookies for each, and manage it all from one place ... even archive at the click of a mouse. That alone, makes it all worthwhile!
So, remember the Six Degrees Rule and, be Mohicanly-Correct, by following our simple rules for surviving Mohicanland! You'll be just fine ... explore the features a bit & see what YOU can do!

And, one thing I just learned, is that there appears to be a limit to size of post, so, I'll continue on ... will try to fix that, if it's possible!
Anyway, as far as the Site move goes, we're here now, in Ohio, the Board is fully archived and in place, a NEW Mohican Board is here to carry on, all Real Meadia links have been readjusted & should be functional, our Order Form is re-scripted, all images, sounds, and pages are over ... HOWEVER ... none of the other scripts work yet ... i.e. if you were to place a props bid, you'd be notified of an error; same goes for Gathering sign-ups, site mailing list sign-ups, etc. Simply send an E-Mail, if that should prove the case. I hope to have those replaced today ... maybe. Our Director's Expanded Edition log also is now defunct, though I do have the posts, to date, archived & accessible. That basically functioned like a guestbook, so we're seeking out a suitable replacement right now. We set up a new counter, and a new, and MUCH better Search Engine! Try it! And, working on an improved Chat Room[s] ...
In between trying to work out all of this - as well as keeping track of 2002 Gathering Happenings [Tomorrow is the deadline, by the way!], we did manage to update here & there and set up a new page of Lake James photos, courtesy of French/British extra, Marc Hyatt - a Marion native I met at the Post Office.
Eli Ornberg, son of the creators of our Magua Oscar last year, on location ... and badly hurt!

Rich, I don't think it would be a good idea to have folks setting up their own forums. They could rapidly grow to an unmanageable number.
Further, having a bunch of inactive or minimally active forums tends to make a site look a bit like a ghost town.

Well, I've been out of touch for a while, and I decided to visit Mohicanland today. When that black background came up, along with the headstone, I could feel a huge lump in my throat! God, what happened?!!
But perhaps it is time for a change---it was hard to look at the orginal site, and not expect it to be what it once was. And I was only in the periphery of it---it must have been very hard for all of you die-hard Mohicanlanders.
I was hoping to make it to the Gathering this year, but alas, it cannot be. So I shall live it vicariously through the rest of you who do attend!
So, "Hello again" to everyone!
Here's to a new beginning!
