I tried to look up the phrase and got as far as "Aut pax, aut bellum; Pax Aye!" My high school Latin gets me peace and war but the only Scottish that I know that applies is "dina ken" (and the dina is shakey). What does "Pax Aye" mean?

Actually, I have been wondering this myself, Kurt.

Seamus? Oh, Seaaaa-muuuuus... Would you kindly enlighten us? Does it mean simply, "Peace Yes" or is there more to it than that. What is the origin?

Heheheheheh! I KNEW you'd find it if you looked!

Kurt, have you read the Chronicles yet?

but rather to skid in sideways,

Hi Seamus,

I have tried a few times and I really enjoy what I've read but when I enter the archives I keep ending up in a maze of twisty passages all alike and run out of time. I'll find the route through eventually!

We have them in printed form, Kurt, and available through my cousins, Sgt. Malcolm MacWilliam or Many Flags. If you PM one of them, I am sure he can see that you have a set.

Sit tight, GG........sit tight. One of these days........heheheheh! (LOVE it when they beg!)

Aye, and well worth it they are! A quality read!

So, Kurt... some little forest critter must have told you to hunt down that elusive definition in the Wilderness of the Archives. Could be someone just wanted to keep ya busy for awhile, eh? It's not easy finding stuff in that vast, cavernous maze. Nice tracking job there, and glad you made the kill.

Eye Packs! Uh... Pacts I! Er... Packs Me... Oh Foo!

Peace!

OK....OK...OK !

I'll be patient - 'cause goodness knows they are worth the wait - I just LOVE the way you guys right tails --- EE-GAD....I mean write tales!!!!!!

Very kind of you Seamus, but after thinking about it, it would be more ideomatic Swedish to say I didn't comprehend Scottish, as opposed to saying I don't know Scottish. (Swedes don't capitalise the name of anyone's language for some reason.) I don't get much practice since my Swedish grandparents passed on many years ago now and while Mom understands when she hears it she was afraid to mispronounce so she doesn't speak it.

Actually, I think it is literally "what is loose" but colloquially means "What's going on?" or What is this?". Some of the very and I mean very little German I know. My sons took four years of it though. I know no languages. smatterings if that. I am proud to say that I flunked latin, spanish AND russian. The first two were rebellion at asking for German and being given those instead. The russian was a dumb move taking it as an elective with a full 16 credit hours of engineering courses on top of that course.
