On 10 November 1775, by action of the Continental Congress, the United States Marine Corps was born. The place of birth, appropriately enough, was Tun's Tavern in Philadelphia (PA). Tun's Tavern is still there today, and is still a functioning bar, where they also sell souviners marked with the USMC's coat of arms (with permission of the Commandant of the Corps), celebrating the relationship between the USMC and this historic landmark.
So, a Happy Birthday to all Marines; Active, Retired & Former (there is no such thing as an ex-marine). Both here in Mohicanland (Marc aka 'Hawkeye') and serving around the world. You guys are our nation's original '9-1-1 First Responders' for more than 225 years. A proud cadre, who continues to unselfishly protect us today.
Your Most Humble Servant,

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting '...holy sh*t ...what a ride!'
