According to the laws of physics and vector analysis, the forces acting on the toast, and the forces acting on the cat independently when combined would result in the cat either landing on it's side if the forces were equal independently. Of course, factoring in the mass of each along with the equal forces, in actuality the cat would necessarily land on it's ass.
