Sorry ...
I just spent a very long time, on a very elaborate post, only to have it vanish on me when I tried to Preview it. IE froze up & I had to close it down. Thing is, I copied it to memory just before doing that, and that too disappeared! I am so frustrated at the moment! DAMN!
I cannot reconstruct right now ... probably couldn't get the same feel again. Oh, I'm pissed!!!
Anyway just a couple of things regarding content.
Thought you'd be interested in this:
To whom it may concern,
My name is Ed Blatchford. I played the character Capt. Jack Winthrop in Last of the Mohicans.
My sister told me about your site and I had to check it out. I must say I was totally impressed. As I looked through your pics a lot of great emotions began to stir. I felt fortunate to be involved with such a fabulous film. Keep up the good work and thank you for keeping this alive, for all of us.

Says a lot in just a few words. The "fruits of your labor" thing strikes again!
The new segment of Tattoo Tantalizers is up! Thanks to Rick!!!
Get IESpell - for users of Windows & IE only - you can download that spell checker for use everywhere on the Internet by clicking on that. It's very useful. OR, I think this will work - hard to tell for me because I do have it installed on my PC - if you right click in your text area while posting, a Check Spelling option should show. Highlight your text before doing so. I uploaded a script to the server that ought to work, otherwise, download it.
I am so mad right now!!! I could kill a journalist AND a dog AND put their intestines on a stick! [Sorry, Mel!]
It was going to be a good update! @##$!@#% Damn, Damn ...
It was a long post - a twist on a reoccurring theme - about Cooper, Americana, Mann, this web site, cast & crew, and monuments ... plus other stuff ... I should have known better & written in Word first.
I need a stiff drink, and it's not yet 8AM!

About the Tattoo Gallery - I have always thought that Soldier #2's reminisces were the definitive - start to finish - account of the filming experience. And, always thought that Barbara & Scottie Willis, of the Hair Department, had the best collection of photos. And that well may be, still. The best combination of the 2, though - words & pictures - has to go to this new addition, don't you think?
Anyone care to caption this photo???
Think I'll add bits & pieces to this post here & there ... maybe attempt a rewrite of part of the original in FrontPage, for a web site addition .... |

Slowly, as I regain my composure ...
ieSpell, if you haven't figured it out, is a spel chekr.
Other New Stuff On The Board: Besides a couple of minor fixes, I did try to add a script that would auto-resize posted images. Didn't quite get it, but will continue to try!
Access To Archives: Not speaking of the old board's archives, but of the NEW Mohican Board - Up to now, you could only link up with them via the Archive Icon on the main board page. Now, you can also do it from within any particular forum, if, of course, that forum has any archives, and if you are logged in. When on a forum page, look for the icon to the right top on the Bumppo's hand-hewn timber!
Poll Addition: When creating polls, you can now utilize forum code within the answer portion .. i.e. bold, italics, color. You need to manually type it in, so you sort of have to know what you are doing to use it. See the Forum FAQs for some instruction on how to use forum code.
Gathering Update: In case you missed it, 9-MONTH Gathering Update & Checklist! |

Well, I've been "lost in the wilderness" for a while...
Rich, I feel your pain with those computer problems! You pour your heart and soul into something, and the computer just decides that it was not meant to be. Even so, your post was very...um...emotional. Especially that part about the dog, and intestines, and a stick...? Do I want to know about that one?!!! I think not!
Thanks for the spell checker...I was trying to solve "@96$#8<$" and "@##$!@#96" as cryptograms! I'll just spell-check them to see what you were really saying!
The letter from Jack Winthrop was great! To date, how many cast members have checked into the site? (just curious)

Quite a few, is my inexact response. See link below to the new Mohican Musing.

Not exactly, but I did respond. In time ...
Funny how men & women view that photo differently. Or, at least express how they see it differently. Of course, Doc Mary ain't weighed in yet!
More from my original post ~~~~
Upcoming: I know, I know, you've heard it before ... I hate saying it; you probably are tired of hearing it. This huge mess of a site costs money to maintain ... there's a hefty "rental" fee, bank charges, and credit card charges [even when no sales are made], Internet access, software, etc. etc. Hey, I'm really not complaining. Just stating what is. Over the years, the main source of income used to keep this site running was the sale of our guide book. There are now maybe 2 dozen copies left. Then what? Well, we have started the move toward expanding the Storefronts again, but, past experience would indicate that probably won't be enough. So, began a push to find a print-on-demand publisher to redo the guide book. Found! On the plus side, we can order small runs at a time, no need to invest well over $10,000 like we did originally, and, due to the lower cost, we can expand it considerably and offer it at a lower price tag. Bad news is, only the cover will be in color. BUT! Not to worry, over in our Café Press Shop, we will soon be offering full-color calendars [2004] featuring many of the familiar sites, plus notecards/postcards and maybe some other stuff. Got to keep this place going, someway, somehow ... now, I have a lot of work to do preparing the book files in another format!
The "I Did It" Department: I sucked it up & regrouped and re-pieced together what was to be the bulk of this morning's post before it was devilishly snatched from my grasp. Not sure if it flows the same, but the ebb is there. Put it on the site, at: MOHICAN MUSINGS ... Part 9
Oh, and Seamus, might as well post what you sent me via E-mail. Bill has ya beat!

Hey Rich,
Boy don't I know how you feel. I did that with a web page on my site and somehow, POOF! it was all gone. It still isn't all back!!
ANYWAY, this is so cool about Ed "Jack Winthrop". I liked Jack Winthrop. One of those small characters I could have been happy to see more of. I hated seeing him done in in the Massacre. But how wonderful that he finally found your site. They will ALL find you soon.
And yes, Tattoos #6 is fabulous! Text and pictures!! What a fabulous addition for this site.
Finally, there is nothing wrong with a stiff Bloody Mary at 8am on a Sunday Morning!! That's how a lot of people get through morning service!! (I'm a mimosa fan, myself.)

You're right, Rich, it's funny (but not at all surprising) how men and women would caption the photo differently. I was eating an apple as I read Bill's first caption and almost choked!!! :-) To furthur illustrate how men and women think differently, I offer the following non-sequiter which proves what they are really thinking here: DDL: "Yup she's looking at me, she wants me, I'm da man! I know she can't resist the loincloth, she wants me, look at me, yeah yeah yeah!" Maddy: "hmmm I think I really do like vanilla after all." |

Glad you were able to piece that one back together, complete with Buffalo Springfield, no less.
This is truly an accomplishment to be proud of.
And a lot of it has to do with connections, as you've suggested in the piece. This site has offered the opportunity for a lot of disparate interests to come together.
That "six degrees" is no joke!

No, it's not!!! Thanks, Scott!
Hey ET! In answer to your question - all we did was send him a set of the photos I used in the guide booklet - before there was a guide booklet. If memory serves correctly, I arranged them in one of those little photo albums. That's about it. I was floored to get the response we did!!!
BTW, Jack, presumably, survived the film. He left FWH to return to his home, remember. That may have been Ian you were thinking of getting whacked at Massacre Valley. Still another reason to go back & watch the movie!
Resuming The Weekly Update: One thing I forgot to mention, even in my original post that vanished, is that I slightly rearranged the categories/forums on the board. I separated The Lions Den & The Philosophy Phorum into their own category, The Light in the Forest, Two reasons for this move -- The subject matter of these two forums is so much different from that in the rest of the Off the Beaten Trail forum.
- Primarily, though, it was to assist in removing these 2 forums from their - as I perceive it, anyway - dark shadow. They seem to have gotten a bad rap. I thought a brighter title for them appropriate. After all, they can be enlightening!
Man, that was a long post!!! Still is!
One thing I omitted, was a piece on our Moderators. I think that's good, because by that time I was rambling. Don't think I said what I meant to. Another time.
There you have it, a Two Day Weekly Update ... first of its kind! |
