The tradition lives on......
Thanks for sharing that story, WW.
We have in so many ways, preserved English culture and language, including parts that they have lost.
I'm reminded of those pockets in the South where you can still find (at least up until recently) something very close to Elizabethan English being spoken. |

Ahhhh...now I could wax lyrical on the subject of Marmite.....but I will contain myself.....(for now! )

Marmite is the 'devil's spawn' & no true upper-housed Brit will touch the stuff, no matter how lyrically Adele waxes it. [Scott, get those Marmitic ideas out of your head.]
I was wondering ... it's almost four centuries precisely since Guido got busted. Have you Brits yet come to a consensus on the annual celebrations? Are you celebrating Fawkes' execution or are you commemorating the nearly successful House cleaning?

Ahhh how the tides have turned. Whereas originally, I believe the day celebrated the uncovering, and subsequent execution of a traitor....now, I would say the celebration is of a failed (but worthwhile) attempt!! I can hear them readying a room at the Tower for me as I type those words!

| To make matters worse, the Aussies felt the need to get into the act with their vegemite. |
