Well, first of all, let me say how very strange it is to be sitting here - the weekend before the 2003 Gathering was to be held - with no Gathering on the immediate horizon. It's about time for the fix, but there ain't no fix! No hordes of Mohicanites, dressed in buckskins & carrying their Longue Carabines! No "Welcome MohicansFans" signs greeting me anywhere! No anxiously anticipated first viewing of the Program Guides! No meeting up under the Big "Rock" at Chimney Rock Park - seeing the "old" faces & trying to figure out who the "new" ones are! No long caravans of vehicles bearing their colorful little flags! No trails, no falls, no forests, no vistas! No film! No The Last of the Mohicans mystique! No Gathering! Jeez Louise! No Louise's either, now that I mention it! DANG!
So, then, what do you make of this? Appearing in This Week, a local events magazine -
Chimney Rock; Last of the Mohicans Reunion, at Geneva Riverside thru 6/22.
OK, maybe an old listing? Ah HA! One intrepid Gatherer called to see what's up, and reported this:
... called the Geneva requesting information on the LOTM reunion in the current issue of "This Week in WNC." I was told it was canceled this year. Apparently the event advertised was the usual Gathering, but this is an odd way to drum up Gatherers. In the event listing, there is a $ symbol indicating that there is a fee for this event. If the event had gone on as planned, would the Geneva folks have enrolled Gatherers? Or referred them to the website? None of my business I guess but it just seems odd to "invite" the general public to this without pre-registration, etc. Plus, the event was canceled quite a while back, so it's odd for it to appear in the current event listings. Anyway! Sure doesn't seem like June without a Gathering.....
I don't know what's up with that, but I wholeheartedly concur with the last line ... received a few E-mails, actually, expressing similar sentiments ... Weather looks "iffy," btw.
The Good News, though, is that once next weekend passes, we'll be in the same boat as every other year for the past 6 - sans the post-Gathering Blues - eagerly looking forward to the next Great Mohican Gathering! Click on the link - see what's in store - and join up with the other 42 folks who have already decided that they're going to come!
OK - got that out of my system!
New On The Board: On the main board page, look for this icon: [only smaller] out on the right column with the other icons. Clicking on it brings up a pop-window with info & links to the 5 most recent posts within that particular forum. This was a special request - actually, a drop-down menu was requested, but I felt that would make too much clutter and chose this method. Seems to be working ok. Let me know if it fills the bill! Hope you find it useful!
