Sometimes, when I ramble on in these posts, some of you may wonder what on Earth I am talking about when I refer to "commitment," and "investment," and that "rise & fall" stuff.

Many here are, or have been, committed, have invested [and continue to do so], and have witnessed, first hand, many highs & lows in this place we call Mohicanland - The Mohican Board. Others, have simply walked away.

This past week, we saw a real, and out-in-the-open, example of what I am talking about. Two or three users of this board - moderators, though that's not really the point - saw a problem & remedied it in quiet & efficient fashion, without causing a ruckus, and without my assistance, really. [I was consulted, but had no real doings in the matter. In fact, if not for their intervention, I might not have even realized what was going on.] They "live" here and care, so they took appropriate action. I can't thank Theresa, Diana S., and Mike enough for doing what they did. It's just a part of giving back to the overall process. Their actions are to be commended ... and are!!!

Thank you, folks! As we say elsewhere on this site:

It's what makes it all worthwhile!

Other stuff of "note" this week:

Two new forums: By request, we now have two new forums on the Board - on books and on historical sites. Good suggestions, both!

Those little images in the forum categories: Hmmm ... not one person has commented, so I've just continued adding them in. Hopefully, they're not bogging anyone's machine down. They are very small, KB-wise, and have not affected my dinosaur of a PC, so I'm thinking they're ok on yours. Why don't all the forums have a pic? Glad you asked! My criteria for selecting an image:
  • Must be appropriate for the forum
  • Must be a pic used elsewhere on this web site
Basically, that's it. The second one makes it hard to find some - even with all the images scattered about this site - so I may have to abandon this philosophy. Any suggestions? Let me hear 'em!

About private messages: Each Sunday, or thereabouts, all PMs over 45 days old, or thereabouts, are deleted in a batch delete. That's where they go to!

About birthdays: Covered this before, but ... your birthday will automatically show up on the birthday portion of the Events Calendar [for a period of 30 days before and after] if:
  • You have the proper info inputed [no easy feat] in the date-picker area of your Profile
  • You have posted a message within 30 days
Otherwise, no birthday!

Board disappointments: I have a lot of fun playing around with the code that runs this board, adding features, etc. It really is amazing to me to see these little snippets of code do the things they do. Most of the stuff, noticed or not, is utilized. I'm a bit surprised that the Web Links, Classifieds, and Photo Albums aren't used more. Just reminding you that they're there. All are accessible through the Navigational Links in the upper right-hand corner.

2004 Gathering: I am so excited about this one! Hope I don't peak too soon! Partly due to guilt over having to pull out on the 2003 edition, I'm putting my all into the next one, and so far, it's paying off.

Many of you received an E-mail and/or Newsletter from me over the past few days regarding sign-ups. Actually, I had written a really good letter - quite eloquent and persuasive, I thought - and was almost ready to send it, when my computer froze up & I lost the whole thing. [Sure, like the big one that got away! No, really!] Next morning, I wrote a quick & condensed version ... oh well.

Well, that's a relief.

From the subject line, I thought you'd been the victim of a moderator mutiny!

Thanks, moderators, for whatever it was that you did.

Yes! It sounded like a "coup d'etat", didn't it?

But it was really a "coup de main"!

Thank you, Guardians of Mohicanland, for your watchfulness.

Rich, I would just like to say thank you for allowing us to make our humble suggestions for the boards. It helps to make us (me, anyway!) feel a part of it!

Also, I like the little pictures you are putting on the main categories page. They add a little interest and color. I had just held off on commenting until you had them all up there!

Hey Rich...so sorry for not saying so, BUT I did notice "Those little images in the forum categories". I especially like the Lion's Den and THe Muster images!!! It really makes it a bit easier when identifying a forum you want to peruse. I usually enter the board on Active Topics (THANKS FOR THAT!) and then if I need to look at a previous post, I go to the All Forums areas - *I* even have trouble getting where I need to go sometimes, so the pics help - I can imagine how a new visitor might think "My God, where do I start?" Just an idea, but I wonder if it would ever be possible to create a drop down list of the..oh, say...5 most recent topics posted to in each forum. Sometimes I can't remember which forum a topic was in. Was it F&I War...or The Muster? Just a thought!

The Gathering - being a ridiculously, helplessly obsessive, silly, outrageous, compulsive, fanatical, infatuated, captivated Gathering Fan and Gadget pusher - I can't wait until next year. I can't imagine anyone that got more possessed by the thought of a gathering than myself, but even I, with finishing school, the economy, the war, and life in general had slightly abated enthusiasm this spring - can't put a finger on the exact reason! BUT NOW...I am happy to report that ridiculously, helplessly obsessive, silly, outrageous, compulsive, fanatical, infatuated, captivated FEELING IS BACK!!!!!! I CAN"T WAIT until next June!

As Moderator of the Thought for the Day forum, I would just like to say that after I read this, I was seriously considering mailing Theresa to see if she would start a little trouble in my forum!! How about it Theresa, want to post a risque or controversial thought?! C'mon...give a poor moderator the chance to moderate!!

On the subject of the gathering...well Rich, you know I would walk on hot coals to be there (well...I would travel for 12 hours at least!), however, you know my difficulties with making any early commitment (and no...for all you amateur psychologists out there...it has NOTHING to do with a fear of intimacy!! ) Not being at the last gathering sucked quite frankly, so I shall do my damndest....besides, I wanna see the Gadget Girl again, and Soldier #2 and Sharon, and DT, and FT, and TGAT, and everyone and and and....you of course!!

Does that count as a definite maybe??

Hugss and all that good stuff!

Uh oh.

Speaking of "little pictures", Rich, I just realized where your avatar comes from. And here I've been thinking Coeur de Leon all this time.

It's no wonder those Scots are acting up!

You're lucky not to have a whole hillside of them moonin' ya!

Hmmm....
A little risque or controversial thought? I suppose I could locate something so your moderator duties could be put to use. Let me work on that. In the mean time, it would be lovely to have "thoughts" from other Mohicanlanders in that forum. I'm sure there are plenty of folk out there with a thought or two up their sleeves....or in their heads.

You are a part of it, WW. Everyone is. You know, I run 2 other boards besides this one - Against All Odds & and a board I created for a bunch of old friends who grew up together. There's a magic about this one ...

Workin' on it, GG. Good idea! It may turn out to be a pop-up, rather than a drop-down. Will be awhile, though ...

Regarding the Gathering ... calm down, girl, you're as bad as I am, and you saw what Huggy wrote in today's "Thought For The Day," didn't you?

Well, thanks, to all of you ... they're all up there now. I'm not 100% satisfied with my selections - had to use some creative thinking - more difficult for me these days, at my advanced age - but it works out fairly well. May change a few ...

One other thing, if anyone ever wants their name changed on the board, it is doable. Just as an example, if Huggy Merchant wanted her name changed to Adele, we could do that. And, we could make Huggy Merchant Adele's title.

Just let me know if ever ...

Peeked at all the images in the forum list - I think they are all excellent choices - especially the Thought for the Day.

Now regarding Adele's post...are you suggesting I may be on the brink of being crazy?? Well--------, in the words of the great PeeWee Herman..............I know you are, but what am I?....I know you are, but what am I???
