Yesterday i was watching The film once more and a question crossed my mind (may be someone else's too) - What in fact was Magua going to do with Alice?

I could say something here but I'll keep this thread clean!

Hahahaha! Carmel! MMMMMMMMM! Sticks to the roof of my mouth!

Yeah, I'm glad they aren't so picky now! I just love caramel!!!

Very true Light of the Moon. I actually read somewhere that the raping in those times were the traders doing it to the NA women. The most suffering the NA men inflicted on the women from what I read was treating them like animals. No NA tribe even wanted a white skin in their village but if one was brought there as a captive, she was not respected nor treated humanely.

Didn't see this thread before so I voted...the last option seemed more logical so I casted my vote there.

Irish and I discussed the whole Uncas kill Alice concept in another thread and she won me over to her way of thinking. I doubt Magua would have killed her, having seen his soft side come out when she was contemplating her flying leap(Weeeee!).
And contrary to belief the NA didn't treat women, not even their captives, like concubines. They may have been extremely cruel, even act as if they didn't exist but raping them was almost unheard of.

Well, they may have been a red gooey mess (which they weren't...most of their bodies were still in tact) but at least they were finally together....no matter what form it was!
Obediah Posted - December 11 2006 : 12:19:44 PM
You realize, of course, by the end of that scene, that Alice and Uncas looked exactly alike: a red, gooey mess on the rocks at the bottom of the cliff! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
Dancer Posted - December 11 2006 : 10:28:35 AM
I don't think he had an idea at the time as to what he wanted to do with her at the moment but I do not question that the entire time he knew he was going to treat her as inhumanely as possible. Breeding with her in my opinion is definitely out of the question. Even though he would infect her father's seed by breeding with her, he would inturn be infecting his own seed.

I believe he was going to kill Alice sooner or later. I mean, if you watch the Indian who grabs Alice's arm as they leave the Huron village, he withdraws a knife. Also the group escorting Alice and Magua are all fully armed. And Magua was so angry that he INSULTED the sachem (a big no-no in Indian culture), so what was there to stop him from killing her? Certainely not his respect for Sachem.

Yeah that was me, but like I said, Magua was most likely gonna kill her. And besides, Magua was desperate to wipe out Munro's seed forever.

I like to think that the fact poor Uncas had just fallen off the cliff played at least SOME part in her decision to jump.. Even if it was just one among ather factors..

I agree with irishgirl that killing yourself is not a brave thing and I think fear was the main reason, Uncas has just died right before her eyes and besides Magua reached his arm covered with Uncas' blood!
But I can't help thinking (or at least hoping) that what Uncas did contributed in her decision. I prefer to see it that way.

Thought she was weak. She was weak. She was way too timid and shy and barely spoke. I know she was young but she really did not have much backbone and before anyone says something, I don't think taking your own life for whatever reason, is a brave thing to do. More like the easy way out. If she had not jumped and waited a few more minutes her rescuers would have come and saved her. Of course, there are those who say she jumped to be with her beloved Uncas but I just think she was totally scared out of her mind and was lost without Cora to protect her. Magua knew he had nothing to fear from Alice as she was just a lost little girl to him with her big Doe eyes. She was a scared child especially after seeing what Magua just did to poor Uncas and he was a brave warrior. She would never have lasted long in Indian life as she was too soft.

I think he was sure she won't run away. He thought she was weak. And there were many Hurons with him. So there was no need to tie her up.

i chose the last one.but i thibnk he would either have traded her so he could become a trader as the whites or killed or treated her as bad as possible

I agree. Especially taking into consideration Father Jean de Brebeuf's recommendations (you may see them in History section):

You must never keep the Indians waiting at the time of embarking.

Eat as soon as day breaks, for Indians when on the road, eat only at the rising and the setting of the sun.

Be the least troublesome to the Indians.

Bear with their imperfections, and you must try always to appear cheerful.
