A note to Diane B.: Stan and I enjoyed getting to know you!  glad you came!  and how is it that you recognized Stan's cheeks after knowing him for only 4 days?  HMMMMM?  
   
  Other thoughts while I'm here.  Everyone did a great job, planning, etc., and I enjoyed seeing old and new folks there. I hope everyone got home safely.  Looking forward to next year.  BTW, how many times do I have to post to get rid of the 'starting member' beside my name?

I LOVE a crisp mountain morning, the fog, the mist, the stillness, the coolness, a nice warm, steaming cup o' joe and Dale's doughnuts......deer jumping in front of your car, not being able to see the BRIGHT yellow line OR the tunnel walls for the fog, falling asleep while rounding a curve with maybe one foot of shoulder AND NO GUARDRAIL! I got to re-live all these wonderful things this past weekend at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Some of the finest SOFT Scottish weather I've ever experienced (IT RAINED AND RAINED AND WAS 55 degrees - yes, 55 DEGREES on the mountain!!!) B-U-T...I did get to lose my breath as the massed bands (15 or so Pipe and Drum bands with 30-50 members each) crossed the field out of the foggy dew!!! If you close your eyes and feel the light spritz of the fog on your face as it whisks across the mountain and the pipes and drums permeate your whole body...maybe just maybe you can imagine a fine Scottish morning!!! Of course, as soon as the Australian, the Canadian, the British, and the American national anthems were sung (WHew!!!!) It was back down the mountain for the soggy weather gear! Great music (Man, I do love the music!!!), great food, great sights and vendors. It was a blast! Of course, with the nippy weather those kilts were being held a LEETLE to snug for my liking...there's always next year!!!! GG

And yes my husband too chose to "SHOW THE WORLD OUR CHEEKS" I say we are going to have to keep OUR eyes on them next year We are out of sight and they are out of breech clot... Cherie

I was impressed with the itinerary and how much we saw and experienced. So I thought that I would post one of my favorite pictures here from the "Great Sunrise" at 05:30 (in the morning). Phil

First of all, there were only a few guys running around in period dress! I recognized Marc's colorful waistband (probably not the correct term - sorry, Marc!) and the MacLeod's hat, and that helped me to identify them. As for Stan, the giveaway was the brain-tanned leather he was wearing! By the way, your copies of the Nolichucky prints are going out in tomorrow's mail! Hope to see many more posts from you, also! I don't know where Lainey came up with that figure ... NO! Not the "figure" Steph referred to in another topic, but that 100 post deal. Fact: After a mere 5 posts, you go all the way from a "Starting Member" to a "New" member!!! Talk about rapid advancement!!! Maybe I should change that; but that wouldn't be fair. Plus, I might drop back to being "Average" again ... nah! It might be fun to incorporate Gatherings attended into the stars ... Another mere 100 to shake past 'average member.' One more centennial to move forward from 'advanced member.' After that, you'll probably make 'Honorary GGGG Member.' Don't know for sure as it's never been tried before. You game? Fire away ...
Stephanie	Posted - July 10 2002 : 2:33:56 PM Teri, Great to hear from you! I, too, am still peeling (yuck!) from the Nolichucky trip. It was certainly grueling but somehow worth it. Your childbirth comparison is funny because as soon as my soreness from the ducky wore off, I was considering doing it again. I don't have kids but people say you quickly forget the pain of childbirth as well.I must say the scenery on the Nolichucky was well worth the work. Oh, and about the starting member status, ask Rich....he apparently has an advanced member hahahhahaahhaah Stephanie
