HI, all,
That "starting member" beside my name is downright embarrassing for one who has attended 3 gatherings! So I'll post, I'll post! I usually keep track of things thru hubby, Stan, who visits regularly. You all know Stan, of course. Or you do now anyway, one of those famous "cheeky" people in the photo! I wasn't there that day at Table to keep him in check. I was at the RV nursing my sore and burnt body from the wonderful day at Nolichucky. And I say "wonderful" with absolutely no sarcasm. It was well worth the days of suffering that followed, and boy did I suffer! waaaaaahhhhhhh I am still peeling, BTW. I believe paddling that ducky down the river was one of the hardest things I have ever accomplished. (I'd rather go thru childbirth again before I do it again!) Maybe on a raft, next time.
A note to Diane B.: Stan and I enjoyed getting to know you! glad you came! and how is it that you recognized Stan's cheeks after knowing him for only 4 days? HMMMMM? Other thoughts while I'm here. Everyone did a great job, planning, etc., and I enjoyed seeing old and new folks there. I hope everyone got home safely. Looking forward to next year. BTW, how many times do I have to post to get rid of the 'starting member' beside my name?

Teri, Great to hear from you! I, too, am still peeling (yuck!) from the Nolichucky trip. It was certainly grueling but somehow worth it. Your childbirth comparison is funny because as soon as my soreness from the ducky wore off, I was considering doing it again. I don't have kids but people say you quickly forget the pain of childbirth as well.I must say the scenery on the Nolichucky was well worth the work. Oh, and about the starting member status, ask Rich....he apparently has an advanced member hahahhahaahhaah Stephanie

Hi Teri,
Welcome to my nightma ... I mean, great to see you here!
Okay - it takes only about 100 posts to make 'starting member' bite the dust. Another mere 100 to shake past 'average member.' One more centennial to move forward from 'advanced member.' After that, you'll probably make 'Honorary GGGG Member.' Don't know for sure as it's never been tried before. You game?
Fire away ...

Hey Teri! Great to see you on the Board!!! Hope it becomes a regular thing ... for you & CheekMan, both!
Now, as far as advancing ... I don't know where Lainey came up with that figure ... NO! Not the "figure" Steph referred to in another topic, but that 100 post deal. Fact: After a mere 5 posts, you go all the way from a "Starting Member" to a "New" member!!! Talk about rapid advancement!!! Maybe I should change that; but that wouldn't be fair. Plus, I might drop back to being "Average" again ... nah! It might be fun to incorporate Gatherings attended into the stars ... I'll have to see if I can figure something out.

I, too, am peeling yet ... The weirdest thing was, though, that my ankles swelled up after the Gathering. I mean they really swelled up ... took well over a week to get back to normal. Without a doubt, that was the most physical Gathering ever! Pure, wonderful, torture!

I had the same thing happen to me! My ankles & feet were swollen for at least ten days! As soon as I would get to work in the morning & put my feet under my desk, I would kick my shoes off! Same thing in the afternoons: as soon as I got into the car, I was driving barefoot! And I stayed that way until time to go to work the next morning! In spite of the sunburn, the soreness and the swelling, I quickly began to think about doing it all over again, just as Stephanie said!
Note to Teri: quote: A note to Diane B.: Stan and I enjoyed getting to know you! glad you came! and how is it that you recognized Stan's cheeks after knowing him for only 4 days? HMMMMM?
Teri, my husband wanted to know how I was able to correctly "name that cheek" on three of the four in that photo! I correctly "named that cheek" on Stan by pure luck, and the process of elimination! First of all, there were only a few guys running around in period dress! I recognized Marc's colorful waistband (probably not the correct term - sorry, Marc!) and the MacLeod's hat, and that helped me to identify them. As for Stan, the giveaway was the brain-tanned leather he was wearing!
By the way, your copies of the Nolichucky prints are going out in tomorrow's mail! Hope to see many more posts from you, also!

Hi,
Well I too am a new member, and I thought that I would post a message and tell everyone that the 2002 Gathering was quite unique. I was impressed with the itinerary and how much we saw and experienced. So I thought that I would post one of my favorite pictures here from the "Great Sunrise" at 05:30 (in the morning).

Ok...I am LMAO here!!!! Too funny! Well, you know....the two gatherings I have been to...I WAS one of the headcases who got up in the middle of the night to go see the sunrise...and...they were perfect. So naturally, I must presume, that the fog was there due to the fact that the Dutch Trader and I WEREN'T!! hehehehe
HM
PS From what I have heard about you Phil...I sincerely hope we get to meet at the next gathering!! I like your style

OH Phil you have made me glad I stayed in bed on Sunday morning. Like HM, I have been lucky the previous two Gatherings to witness beautiful sunrises, but this one truly was worth staying in bed for! Stephanie

Oh you GUYS!!!!! Whadya menan? WHADYA MEAN???? I LOVE a crisp mountain morning, the fog, the mist, the stillness, the coolness, a nice warm, steaming cup o' joe and Dale's doughnuts......deer jumping in front of your car, not being able to see the BRIGHT yellow line OR the tunnel walls for the fog, falling asleep while rounding a curve with maybe one foot of shoulder AND NO GUARDRAIL!
I got to re-live all these wonderful things this past weekend at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Some of the finest SOFT Scottish weather I've ever experienced (IT RAINED AND RAINED AND WAS 55 degrees - yes, 55 DEGREES on the mountain!!!) B-U-T...I did get to lose my breath as the massed bands (15 or so Pipe and Drum bands with 30-50 members each) crossed the field out of the foggy dew!!! If you close your eyes and feel the light spritz of the fog on your face as it whisks across the mountain and the pipes and drums permeate your whole body...maybe just maybe you can imagine a fine Scottish morning!!! Of course, as soon as the Australian, the Canadian, the British, and the American national anthems were sung (WHew!!!!) It was back down the mountain for the soggy weather gear! Great music (Man, I do love the music!!!), great food, great sights and vendors. It was a blast! Of course, with the nippy weather those kilts were being held a LEETLE to snug for my liking...there's always next year!!!!
