I've read the first and third in the series, "Iron Lake" and "Purgatory Ridge"; the second is "Boundary Waters." The sheriff is part Ojibwe, and both of the books I've read address Ojibwe life and the tensions between them and their white neighbors. When I started reading each of these books I didn't think the plot was all that special, then -- that development that every mystery reader hopes for! -- they quickly became page turners.
