Posted - October 18 2007 : 11:08:51 PM I'm posting this because some of my friends on here knew about my possible heart blockage. Well we were at the VA from 8AM - 6PM, & so needless to say we're kind'a tired (LOL). I got my echo-cardiogram & chemical stress test done today, and should find out the results by tomorrow. Wow, it was a bear of a test. Tonight i'll probably glow in the dark with all the nuclear stuff still in me (ha). I feel sure that the test results will come back negative, but even if they don't, folks who know me also know that I'm not a quitter. If I was, I'd have given up long ago having 9 herniated discs, one knee needing total replacement with the other knee having already had one, and 40-45% of my lung capacity due to Agent Orange exposure in '68 (LOL). But I'll keep on going until I finally grow up, (HA), like that'll ever happen. I'm like Peter Pan, I'll never grow up!!! I might slow down a bit though (LOL). Mike |

Well, if that's the case, I guess my heart should be in great shape after last weekend at Fort Dobbs. I had Canadien beer and French wine, and the Jaegers had some really good Cognac! It was a fine time.
Sounds like the typical graduate student Friday night . . . except that our wine is usually of the fine $3-5 quality.
Events usually have two kinds of camps. Those that like to sit around a fire and talk about the "shining times", and those that like to party. The French, thankfully, seem to fall mostly into the latter category. They camp away from the Brits, so no problem (not that there necessarily would be for that reason). But in the Rev War events, the Brits seem to be the fun-loving ones and the Americans split somewhere down the middle. That makes for some ill feelings in the American camp, with the resulting problems. So, when all is said and done, it's good to be French! |

Posted - November 03 2007 : 1:17:23 PM The thing about wine is, it tastes better with every swallow! (Pretend those are clinking wine glasses!)
I'm lucky, though; I haven't had a gall bladder since 1981...gallstone attacks ain't much fun! |

Nothing wrong with the cheap stuff, long as it tastes good Thanks, I felt better, least wise until my gall bladder started acting up last thursdy . Got to get an ultrasound Monday. Suddenly I feel like I'm falling apart. But I'm not allowed to do that. I'm married to too pretty a gal. She might start lookin' for some young guy ( ) Actually she was standing here looking over my shoulder when I wrote that. I meant it though. (honest!!!)

Yay! Even more cause to celebrate with that 32 oz. glass.

Yeah, a little each day. One on each of 7 days, not seven on one day!
By the way, it has to be wine for the heart. There's something in the grape. Researchers believe it's actually in the grape skin, as red wine has more of an effect than white wine for cardiac protection. In fact, there's some evidence that grape juice (purple, not white) works just as well, but that's not as much fun! |

Posted - November 02 2007 : 1:59:09 PM Why, what's the matter, MG? Not a wine enthusiast? How about a glass of fine Port? Seamus and I enjoy that greatly while sitting around a campfire. Warms ye through and through.
Of course, on a hot, muggy July evening, there is nothing better than a cold mug of Yuengling Black and Tan, right out of the cooler. Mmmmmm......
Hey, Mike.... 60 is a great age! As long as one can ignore the aching joints......... |

60? Haven't seen that is some years. I can still run as fast as the young ones when somebody is after me with a musket. |

Posted - November 01 2007 : 10:18:11 PM figured i better write this before i start on my 32 oz. whiskey (LOL). My cardiologist said 'He's sure there's no blockage.' Now i feel better, at least before this pain in my gut hit(ha). MORE WHISKEY NANCY!!!! (just kidding), really. But Nancy's thinking my Gall Bladder might be acting up. Boy, I hit 60 and suddenly I feel like I'm falling apart. |

And I'm drinking one glass of wine, beer, or whiskey before bed. They feel it clears out the arteries, unless it's a 32 oz. glass. (LOL)
LOL!! You go ahead and enjoy that one glass!!! |

Posted - October 31 2007 : 01:18:13 AM That 32 oz. glass remark reminds me of my elder son's cooking philosophy, "twice the temperature, half the time!" |

Please do follow up, too. It's something to be taken seriously. We had a guy code on us yesterday while exercising, in spite of the fact that his cardiologist had cleared him. So, follow up and follow up quick! We couldn't do without you. |

Posted - October 25 2007 : 12:00:44 PM Excellent news! ...and yes, those techs can be a little bit flakey sometimes when performing tests! |

Posted - October 25 2007 : 07:59:12 AM That's really good news, KYF! I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts as you await your cardiologist appointment---which is probably just for extra reassurance anyway. |

Posted - October 25 2007 : 07:46:14 AM Well we just got the results of my tests. The doctor said the echocardiogram was normal, but wants me to follow up with a cardiologist because there was some question about the chemical stress test. Apparently they saw some discrepancy in the film of my heart when the nuclear portion of the film was taken. The general concensus is that I was too big for the camera (LOL), or that I moved somewhat during the film. Never mind that the idiot tech forgot to tell me when the test started (Duh). Anyway, the doctors felt at this point that my heart is good but they still want me to see a cardiologist to evaluate the test results. As far as Nancy & I are concerned, we feel that I'm okay but we have made an appointment with our family doctor who is also a cardiologist. We wanted to let you know everything seems ok. Thank you for all of your concern my friends. Sincerely Mike |

Posted - October 20 2007 : 12:58:38 PM Thank you all again for the well wishes. It really makes one feel good. I have to share this with you all though, the nurse that was administering the drug that sped up everything (least wise it felt like it) told me, "Don't worry, I was on the code team for several years and we've got a crash cart right behind you. I'm great at CPR", then she winked at me. I said, "You're kidding, right?" Then Nancy even busted out laughing, she said my voice changed like I was ready to jump up and kill something or somebody. Dennis Miles had told me I should wear that big knife he made me, (Ha), I'm kind'a glad I didn't take it now. I might have made the National News by frightening a VA facility.(LOL) |
