We've all voted many times for the movies we like. Now I'm asking you to vote for the WORST pieces of flotsam ever applied to film. Which of the following critical or box office bombs do you consider the worst and why? Or if you actually liked one of these things, tell us why. And if you think ANOTHER Godawful film should be mentioned and isn't on the list, tell us about that one instead. |

Hmmm...
I don't know if this is the worst movie ever but I just saw it so I guess it's foremost in my mind: "Friends with Money." OMG! Two hours of nothing but dysfunctional relationships and friends backstabbing and bad-mouthing each other. There's no character development or even anything that happens in the movie except one awkward conversation after another. It ends in the same place where it started and you're left going "That was it?"
Other movies that top my shiznit list: "Sahara" (though Matthew McConaughey is excellent eye candy  ) and "The Cave" (REALLY bad sci-fi flick with cheap special effects). |

Tonight seems to be a night for afterthoughts for me. I'd have to add the Monkees' "Head" to the worst movies list. I will admit to having taped it once when it ran on TV on some obscure channel at some late night/early morning timespot. Trot it out every once in a long while just to get a Peter Tork fix. So embarrassing for them. And yeah, I know, that really dates this old budgie. |

'Glitter' ... OMG @ Mariah Carey ... WHAT WAS SHE THINKING??
I liked 'Titanic' too ... but I agree with Steph, the Celine Dion song was the unsinkable part of that film!
Oh ... and I hated 'Groundhog Day'. I am sooo not a Bill Murray fan. |

Had to suffer through all 3 "Star Wars" movies years ago when I first met my husband to be and pretend that I kind of liked them. Honestly, the things we will do to impress someone in the name of love. Now he would never ask me to watch them as he knows better.
Recently saw "Birth" and thought that was a dumb movie. |

I understand that Hayden Christiansen had an acting double in those Star Wars flicks: Manakin Skywalker.
I actually saw none of the listed movies, except for the first 20 minutes of "Alexander." That's all I could take of that dog. |

I really disliked "Phantom Menace". Despite the ham-handed attempt at a love story in "Attack of the Clones" I found it a much improved effort, still not an all around good film - Hayden Christensen is reeeeeallllly painful to watch and they wasted the talents of Portman, McGregor, and Jackson. Natalie Portman was excellent in "Leon: The Professional", McGregor was great in "Trainspotting", and Sam Jackson is one bad mother-*****(shut yo' mouth). Chasis, opinions are NEVER oddball...they're simply your opinion! 
I agree with you on Freddy Got Fingered and...eeesssshhh..."Jumanji." I did love "Pulp Fiction" and "The Grudge," but as I said, we're all different.
"Jumanji" truly was one of the biggest wastes of film I've seen, followed closely by the one Gadget Girl mentioned earlier, "The Hulk," which sucked so royally you could almost hear that Ross-Perot-coined "giant sucking sound" from out in the parking lot. It was right up there with "Batman and Robin" for horrible comic book movies. I hope the next "Batman" is better, and God help us all, I sure hope the next "Star Wars" is better than the last two...anybody hate those? |

Ok so I am the oddball of the entire board. I love Julia Roberts and I can honestly say Leo does not bother me. And Speed 2 was awesome just because it had Sandra Bullock in it. That is one talented actress. I loved Pearl Harbour, Titanic, House of 1000 Corpses, and yes Pretty Woman. The movie I absolutely could not stand watching was THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS....hee hee hee just kidding. Ok so my dislikes.
Pulp Fiction: Why would anyone want to see so much stupid drug use and rape? Beats me. Although the dancing was pretty cool.
Freddy Got Fingered: Yeah I watched maybe five minutes of that and dumped my at the time boyfriend because he thought it was so great. I detest Tom Greene. I mean cmon...what a waste of human life!
The Grudge: Can we say "a replica of the Ring only pathetic" I did not see a real story line to this movie and was disgusted with paying $7 for this thing the Japanese thought was good enough to be called a movie.
Jumanji: Oh lord I can't even begin to say how boring that movie was. Robin Williams must've been desperate for work or something.
I am sure I could come up with a lot more movies to complain about but it would be a waste of brain cells to try and remember. All that matters is The Last of the Mohicans is the ultimate movie! |

My vote for worst movie would have to go to "Eraserhead" by David Lynch.
I saw it in college at dollar-movie night. I should have taken the hint as audience members, one by one, walked out. I stayed in the hope that a plot, or something, would eventually emerge. Nothing did.
This is for die-hard David Lynch fans, or for people who enjoy bleak surrealism.
As Doc M said, life is too short. I wasted a dollar and 2 hours of my time.

I've been away for a while, but I had to jump in on this topic - one of my favorites. I can think of a lot of bad movies, but my all-time "I can't believe I watched the whole thing" experience was an Oscar nominee, with a respected cast, a director who had done some other fine movies, and a great cinematographer. It's called THE TURNING POINT. It's about a prima ballerina and her "best friend," a former ballerina, and their relationship. Actually, it's about watching two unlikable women (Shirley MacLaine and Anne Bancroft) act catty with one another for two hours, then kiss and make up. Oh yeah, there's also some dancing. The soft-focus photography was so hard on my eyes I literally had a headache after it was over. And the thing got 11 Oscar nominations, but not a single win.

Just saw this ... ... no way you can compare "Titanic" or "Pearl Harbor" or many of those mentioned in this thread to this one ... I mean, it sucks ... badly. Example: features a sexily clad cop named "Valentine"! It's all downhill from there!

My son loved that movie. I have never seen it, but since I have watched some of the movies that my son likes, I am more inclined to believe that you are right and the movie totally sucks. 
I think that my son has the worst taste in movies, but then again he thinks the same thing about my movies.

Sorry to hear that Mists of Avalon (tv movie) was no good. I'm reading the book right now and thought Anjelica Huston was a perfect pick for Viviane and I was looking forward to (if i can find it) renting a copy. Oh well! Have you read the book? I think Christina Ricci would have been perfect to play Morgaine.
But I have to agree about King Arthur... yeecchhh! I was disappointed. I adore the actress.... Keira Knightley I think is her name... loved her in Pirates of the Caribbean but the whole King Arthur thing was a let down.
And speaking of the 80's... I recently watched Uncle Buck again and laughed just as hard as ever at John Candy. God rest his soul!!

I haven't had the pleasure of Battlefield Earth, but the movies I MOST detest are the teeny booper ski, get drunk, ski in your underware, drink more, ski into buildings and statues and get REAL hurt and ENJOY it because you drank some more....movies! Makes me wanna do BAD things to people watching those!

paid week-end to the Mohicanland Clinic For The Terminally Weird, where you can sit in the lanyard-weaving room with both Mr. Federici
and Wilderness Woman to watch Titanic and Pearl Harbor! Normally
I would include a few *whack! whack! whacks!* as well, but that
would border on cruel and unusual punishment. Not that there's
anything wrong with that.
And BTW, just what do you have aaginst getting drunk and skiing

I just had the pleasure of witnessing THE HULK this past weekend. That has to be one of the WORST movies I have ever seen. I was embarrassed for the actors! I actually liked Armageddon AND the Postman AND Pearl Harbor (cowering - getting ready for the Whack Whack Whacks).
Sus, I also have the best time watching Mystery Science Theater 3000. We OWN This Island Earth. It is SOOOOOOO Bad and those guys crack me up - you can always count on great laughs with those clever little silhouette heads!

Doc M has notoriously low standards, and is known to be able to sit
through just about anything. Like Sus said, there are those uniquely
horrible, hugely enjoyable movies, and there are those that you know
are to be avoided at all costs ...I mean, come on. Leprechaun II???
And then there are the big, dumb, incredibly expensive movies with
big-name actors that are supposed to be taken seriously --- and THOSE
are the ones that p*** me off no end. These are strictly my opinion,
and I know they have been enjoyed by some...like YOU, Rich!! *LOL*
But here are some of the ones I've paid my local Blockbuster good
money to rent, and ended up throwing things at the tv and screaming.
King Arthur: How bad could it be? Great cast, love all the King Arthur stuff -- even the TV movie version of The Mists of Avalon, which was pretty bad. This was just totally mindless, illogical,
big dumb loud Jerry Bruckheimer crapola. A huge disappointment.
I had forgotten about The Postman -- I normally watch all movies
to the bitter end, even the ones I hate. This I ejected after 20
minutes, and only the thought that I would have to pay for it kept
me from jumping up and down on it. Even the cat wouldn't pee on it.
This was from a great David Brin sci fi book too, which made it even
more of an atrocity.
Armageddon -- why I thought I might enjoy a movie featuring two
actors I absolutely loathe -- I Smirk Therefore I Am Bruce Willis,
and Ben A**flap -- I can't imagine. And add to this Liv Tyler as
the love interest, who maintains on her face at all times the
vacuous expression of the brain-damaged, and you have a real
viewing treat in store. I watched this for about a half-hour and
then fast-forwarded it through to then end only because I was hoping
everybody would die. Alas, only Bruce succomebed.
The Hulk -- another huge big green disppointment. Give me the old
clunky TV series anytime.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen -- This one broke my previous
Postman record, and was ejected after a mere 15 minutes. Life is too
short.
Pearl Harbor -- as you know, I love WWII movies...plus I cheerfully
anticipated my beloved Ben getting blown up early on. I knew I was
in big trouble when I was watching this mess for what seemed like
10 hours and we hadn't even gotten to Sunday yet. And Ben survived.
The horror! The horror!
There are many more, but nature is merciful and has erased a lot
of them from my memory.
