Dear Jo.. it was called that, Named for the Owner.. "For years the stock growers, which comprised a large portion of the population of upper South Carolina, had been in the habit of grazing their cattle in this area before driving them to maket on the coast. The area was forested with red oaks, hickory and
pines. As it was heavily pastured there was no undergrowth. The site Morgan halted was known locally as Hannah's Cowpens from it's owner"..(Battle of Cowpens,Edwin C. Bearss)
