In Reply to: James Fenimore Cooper stuff--One important notice posted by Diana on April 02, 2001 at 11:53:45:
: Hello Friends:
: I just saw a notice on C-Span that there is going to be a live presentation from Cooperstown, NY on April 23. The subject will be James Fenimore Cooper's Writings. This is part of C-Span's series on American Writers. This should be interesting.
: The other thing: I had just posted an item concerning JFC's "The Spy" when the whole Board got archived. (Rats!) Therefore, I'm asking the question again as to what folks think of Cooper's other works, specifically "The Spy". By the way, Gayle, thank you for your comments.

Thanks for the heads up, Diana! Sounds very interesting!
- Sorry about the Board Archiving. It must be done now & again ... & again ... & again ...
As for Cooper's other works; 'The Spy' is one that might even interest a lot of lukewarm LOTMers. Rev War fans, Hudson River Valley History Buffs, etc. It's classic Cooper - social critique with a biting indictment upon the politics of the day.
If written today it'd be discussed, debated, & analyzed by the growing numbers of people classified as 'political pundits.'
