When I have Bettygnome scab them off, we call them nuts and use the phrase "Betty needs to go nutting again" as a polite way to say that she needs to do that particular surgery on my chest again.  We save them up.  They make great soup!

: To the second half, I say, you may now color me informed!  I had no idea you could buy canned chestnuts, really.  In fact, I'm almost afraid to admit...I've never even SEEN a chestnut, much less tasted one.  SOOOOOO...if'n you DO make this specialty dish, I'd be most proud to sample a smidgen, just to see what it's all about!
