Seamus has it right...but I would question making leggins of linsey-woolsey. Leggins were worn for warmth and/or protection of the legs and hose (when wearing breeches). I haven't had too much contact with linsey-woolsey but believe it would not protect legs too much or add much warmth. I wear brain-tanned elk leggins and have had them for nigh on ten years, they are just beginning to get broken in!! I also have a wool pair which I sometimes wear in winter with breeches. In winter when I wear the breechclout, I wear two pair of hose and my elk leggins, and two pair of moccassins....toasty, warm and dry all day, even in lots of snow.
Leggins could also be made of canvas or ticking, these worn by military to protect legs and for warmth.....Again, you others out there, do you think that linsey-woolsey is good for leggins???
Pax Aye!
