Hmmmm, sounds familiar... LOTM, the book, used to be popular literature for boys ages 12 through 16 or so in Germany, already at the turn of the century, so I can only assume that it is or was an adapted version there too. Bookstores carry it in the section for that age group, right next to Karl May's "Winnetou" (which hopefully has never made it across the Atlantic, ha!) and all his other sagas. I'm embarrassed to admit that I used to think that both were by the same author. (Never read either, that's my only excuse.)
