: Good idea, Ilse. There is endless material in Cooper's books (or even just Cooper's LOTM) for some excellent discussions. A mulatto heroine created by an early 19th century author is food for thought in itself. Cooper's tales are like layers of mysteries that beg to be examined and solved. Quite a complex mind he had.

Hi Elaine and Gayle,

Thanks for your comments. It looks though I have to order the books through Mohicanpress (smile Elaine!). Did you know that LOTM is usually published here in an adapted version, for children. The widespread view in Holland is therefore that it is a children's tale, because only these adapted versions are easily available. The same goes for Alice in Wonderland. What a disgrace! The libraries mostly only have Lotm, and sometimes Deerslayer in the original versions, so these are the only ones I've read. Looks like Mohicanpress will at last get some of my precious money, says the Dutch miser! :))))
