subtle-sudden never to be solved......

well,
i have given it the 'patty test', and i have concluded that there is no way to know what he said. it sounds exactly like both words. i,myself, have always thought it was "subtle" but i think thats just what my brain expected. its the easier sounding word to use.
everyone's mind works differently because we all have different backgrounds and different levels of listening. some lines in the movie such as, "I have to talk to you, Jack" (at the fort) was easy for me to pick up the first time i heard it but some others had problems understanding. and when they come up to Cameron's cabin, i thought Ching...itchcook said "the laughter of life is good, John", but thats not what he says. its also in the "way" people speak, the tones they use. John Cameron's wife says "welcome" to Ching... but the tone she uses always made me think she was saying "Uncle".
JEEZ, i'm starting to sould like some psychologist or something. i think i'll shut up for now.
if someone like Eric comes up w/ a script or something from the movie that explains what DDL says (subtle or sudden) then i guess we'll finally know. but for now i say we think what's easiest for us.
