: : : From the first time I heard Hawkeye describe how he gets to can-tuck-kee, it sounded like "sudden" to me. Wouldn't "subtle" have been a little too poetic a word for a frontiersman.....just a thought....ann
: : *THANK* you, Ann! That's *exactly* what I've been thinking, reading people's posts about that line. He's a woodsman - *not* an American or English gentleman. He wouldn't have used "subtle" - even being ironic! IMHO, of course.

: Just to put my bit into this discussion. Each time I have seen LOTM (6 time + now) I have Always heard "Sudden - like". I have Never heard "subtle" in that sentence. It just never occured to me that it could be "subtle". "Sudden - like" is much more Sarcastic IMO and I can't imagine a woodsman like Hawkey use a word like "subtle" that way.
: That's just a bit of my opinion

I would have never guessed Hawkeye had said "sudden-like" if I had not read it on this board. I had always heard "subtle-like" when I watched the video. I think "subtle" would be more sarcastic than "sudden". Thought it was a great line!
