: Yeah, Rich...here we go again! ;o) I know you voted for "subtle-like" but to me that makes no sense. For one thing, "sudden-like" is a very common Southern/Country expression. It's used often. And for the phrase "subtle" to be coming from a frontiersman like Hawkeye just doesn't ring true to me. Plus, I really think I can hear and see it clearly. I watched for it particularly in the theater showing, and Myrrh & I both commented that it was pretty clear to us then. Gee, I hate to argue with the Mohican Mentor...sorta. But what's a Mighty Mohican Mama to do? I gotta call 'em as I hears 'em!!

I like MMMMarcia's argument about the appropriateness of "sudden-like" rather than "subtle-like". I also think "sudden-like" is more ironic -- it's as if they are going north just as Duncan and the English would LIKE them to do but then they make a decision and quickly, independantly and openly (as opposed to stealthily/suble-like) turn left.
Besides that, it never occurred to in listening to it that he said anything other than "sudden-like". It seemed clear as a bell to me. That's where my vote goes.
Cheers,
Sarah
