Jason Patric didn't seem wooden to me(wow! what eyes!). He came across as a very strong person trying to do a difficult job in a honorable and humane way. It was so nice to see a white officer treating the Apaches as human beings(I know, it was just a movie!). Surely there were some like that! He did a great job of showing a balance of a man doing his duty with compassion. I LOVED the part where he quoted the scripture "What does it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and loses his soul"(one of my favorites!) to the new commander who tells him to promise land and horses(or was it mules) to Apaches who surrendered. And of course there was no intention to keep that promise! It was great to see a positive Christian reference with no mockery or sarcasm. Very unusual and refreshing. Wish there was more people like Lt. Gatewood in the world. Petra, do you know if that character was fictional or not? And Wes Studi was wonderful, as usual! Great interplay of languages again, though not used as dramatically, as in LOTM. Haven't been at the board for a couple of days and got mouthy!
Hi, Alysha! Actually, I didn't dislike Geronimo at all. If you look back over the posts in this thread, I think you'll see it's Tom who really didn't care for it. I thought the cinematography was beautiful (a big plus in my book for ANY movie) and the story was interesting. Thought Wes Studi was great as usual. I just don't like Jason Patric's acting. I've never seen him change expressions in ANY movie, and have come to the conclusion that the "very strong person" he portrayed here is the only thing he can do. I've heard a lot of jokes at Kevin Costner's expense as to his lack of facial expression in his movies, but I personally think compared to Jason Patric, Costner is Sir Lawrence Olivier!
Just my opinion, of course, on Jason's acting skills. He's probably a very fine person.
As for Geronimo overall, I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in the discussions on this board. It's not perfect, to my mind, but it certainly has merit.
