Not in my book. Though I liked Bridges somewhat, it can't compare to Age as far as Chickflickhood goes. At least people actually "did the deed" in it...in Age, the main characters just suffer exquisitely, and all because of the suffocating mores of the time. They could have made entirely different decisions about their futures, but it was inconceivable to them that they could defy convention & make their own choices in life.
As for Bridges being miscast, I thought Meryl did her usual competent job...but the sight of Clint Eastwood sans shirt will haunt my nightmares for the rest of my life! *me, shuddering & blanching at the rememberance, even now!* I'll take Newland Archer, who was positively beautiful IMHO, any day...in spite of Carol's scathing review (Bad Carol! Insensitive Carol!). The movie did receive very high critical acclaim, so a lot of people must have enjoyed it as much as I. And I still think the scene where he kisses her wrist one of the most beautiful I've ever watched. Positively heart-stopping. But then, I freely admit, I could watch a film where the only action is Daniel Day-Lewis breathing for 2 hours, and be perfectly happy with the movie. Color me smitten.
