: : : As for Mr. Archer, spineless is hardly how I'd describe this character. But I don't want to say more until others on the board have had a chance to view the film. Write me privately, though, and we'll debate his strengths or lack of same...the Bad Carol/Wonderful Marcia Great Debate! ;o)

: : Marcia,
: : I wouldn't even begin to debate you about this film since I've only seen it once and have no intention of watching it again. We do have other films in common; LOTM, WOZ, The English Patient. There are worse films than Age of Innocence. At least it had DDL in it. It's not as if you like Legends of the Fall or anything like that:-}}

: Well, I saw AOI last night for the first time. I have to say, I didn't like it at all. It was flat, the acting appeared labored (even DDL's!!!!), I thought it poorly directed, Pfeiffer was not at all believable. I don't know, I know a lot of you like this film, so I guess I will find little company here. I liked Edith Wharton's story. It was the film itself that was poorly done, IMHO. Sorry I can't find much to say that's positive. I was sort of surprised with DDL. He just didn't seem to give the performance he usually does.

Elaine,
You stated it perfectly! I'm in total agreement with you about AOI. At the end of the movie, I found myself wondering why I spent 3 hours watching it. Like the story, disliked the movie.
