I slaved through parts of the Leatherstocking Tales in American Lit in high school and that was enough! Besides, I know the book is completely different and my loyalty lies with Mann's version.
I know I hit this topic many months ago, but perhaps the newcomers can change my mind - I still don't swallow Duncan's heroic 180 when he sacrifices himself so Cora and Nathaniel can escape together. I think he would just assume play the odds, let Nat burn and try to get away with Cora and pick up the pieces. Any thoughts?
