What I think would have happened in real life is that our heroes would have put caches of powder, shot, and other necessities nearby. This was a common practice among longhunters. Things have been found in very old trees even including rifle barrels and locks from hidden guns.
: Remember they had gotten extra powder horns from both the dead at George Road and from Munro's stores.
: It's posible they had already stashed the powder from George Road before entering the fort, and that's why they asked for more from Munro.
