I'm just about out the door and heading to the battlefield to help out with the archeological road survey.

This reminded me of the new photos I added to the archeological section of the Friends of the Little Bighorn's website. The photos are actually aerial shots just after the fire was finally contained. Some of you have probably never seen them. They give you a great perspective of how widespread the fire was, especially how close it came to destroying the visitor center.

Bob, great pictures of the aftermath of the 1983 fire. I'd never seen them before. I've got a question. In the picture near the bottom of the pictures, the one entitled "Deep Ravine after fire," there seems to be a small white thing. Is that a marker or just -- what is it, if you know? Just curious. Thanks.
Frank

Bob, your pictures are fantastic. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Like Frankboddn, I too am curious about the "small white thing."

Wish I could tell you what the small white thing is, but I don't remember. The photo was taken in early October 1983, only two months after the fire and before any digs had been conducted. I'll ask Doug Scott if he knows and then report back to you.

The weeklong survey was outstanding. I'll be updating the Friends website over the next several days with photos. Doug Scott will be providing me a preliminary report as well.

Warmest Regards,
Bob

Bob, how I envy you. I would have given my first born child (who is now thirty and probably would have something to say about it)to have gone with you.
