I just wish that people wouldn't call French guns "Charlevilles". It was only one of a number of armories that made the standard French pattern guns. St. Etienne seems to be more prevalent. And there was Maubeuge, Liège, Tulle and others. It seems that when Franklin cut his deal with the French, they shipped guns that were in storage, not current models, and the ones received just happened to primarily come from the Charleville armory. So it stuck. Seems like almost everyone calls them by that name these days.
